Everybody is hyped for the following UFC event this Saturday night, the 7th of May. Two major clashes will be marking the event. One is the main event Charles Oliviera against Justin Gaethje and the second is the women’s Strawweight bout Rose Namajunas against Carla Esparza.
The main event will be a story for itself, it will be as fierce and as exciting as it can get. However, our attention is now focused on the Rose against Esparza bout.
Rose Namajunas Will Destroy Carla Esparza At The UFC 274 – Or Will It Be The Other Way Around?
The champion of this division, Rose Namajunas will try to defend her belt from the fierce 3rd ranked Carla Esparza. Rose’s personal record is 11-4-0. Out of her eleven wins, two are with a knockout and she has astonishing five submissions. Making her submission win percentage 45%. This will not be the first time that the Strawweight champion is defending her title.
There is a history of defending and losing the titles since 2017. Firstly, in 2017, she fought Joanna Jedrejczyk, against whom she initially won the title. She later lost it to Jessica Andrade, only to win it back in the rematch one year later. Since her last title win, she has had two defenses. Both against Weili Zhang.
Will this be her fourth title defense? Is she ready to beat Carla Esparza?
Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparza on the other hand has a professional record of 18-6-0, making her more experienced than her opponent. Most of her wins are by decisions, the submissions and the KOs are not her strong side. However, she is one of the most durable and best-conditioned fighters throughout the women’s divisions.
She is able to endure three rounds, and even five rounds with ease and bring her opponents to a state of great fatigue. That is when she is the strongest.
Esparza is on a winning streak as well. And her win streak is greater than Rose’s by two wins. She has five consecutive wins, with the last one about a year ago against Xiaonan Yan.
Both fighters come from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu backgrounds, and both have had similar fighting techniques since in the MMA.
The bout is organized to be in five rounds giving an edge to Carla Esparza since history has shown that she is the one with greater durability. Throughout her career, she is mostly relying on her top-notch wrestling, and she has some ‘favorite’ positions that she usually strives to achieve since they usually lead her to a certain victory.
This is a very important fight. The critics are expecting both girls will start off by inspecting the situation more or less passively. Both will look for an opening to bring the other to the ground, and this might cause a ‘dangerous situation’ where both will be prone to elbow blows when trying to push through the guards.
Nevertheless, this will be an exciting fight. Who will win we can only find out tomorrow evening. We are only cheering for a great show. Hope we will get it.
