Back in 2019 – AEW ran a tournament to name their first ever tag team champions. SCU would come out as the winner, with the duo of Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky being named champions. Now in 2022, Frankie Kazarian is looking to end the second reign of Scorpio Sky as TNT Champion – as these former allies hit the ring together.
Sky is keen on making this second reign a lot more memorable, and that starts with a potential classic tonight. He wants some respect put on this championship, so tonight he will go without Ethan Page or Dan Lambert in his corner – and prove he doesn’t need help to win matches as TNT Champion.
Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian Know Each Other Incredibly Well
They’d lock up hard in the middle of the ring, with Kazarian able to take Sky down into a top wrist lock. Sky would use the ropes to flip his way to freedom, before Kazarian did the same. Kazarian would nail a shoulder tackle, before applying a short arm scissor in the middle of the ring. Sky rolled back into a pinfall, but Kazarian refused to let go of the hold until the second pinfall attempt.
The TKO attempt would be blocked by Kazarian, who looked for a Crossface Chickenwing. Kazarian would hit a Fisherman Suplex, but only got a two count. Sky sent Kazarian to the floor, before nailing a dive over the top rope. Neither man was feeling good after that dive, but Sky was able to get to his feet.
Back in the ring, Sky would apply a tight abdominal stretch – slowing down the pace of the match a bit. Kazarian would fight free with a hip toss, before taking a foot stomp to the back. A back elbow to the face would stagger Sky, before Kazarian hit a leg drop through the ropes. A slingshot cradle pin got Kazarian a near fall, before Sky looked for the springboard leg drop.
American Top Team Gets Involved To Save Scorpio Sky
Sky would nearly catch him into the TKO, before taking a scoop slam and leg drop for a near fall. Crossface Chickenwing was nearly applied, but Sky fought free with a jawbreaker. Sky went to the apron, and was launched into the ring for a cutter – getting a near fall. Kazarian was persistent with the Chickenwing attempt, but Dan Lambert rushed to the ring as Sky was starting to fade.
Ethan Page would sneak in and nail Kazarian with the TNT Championship – but Sky fell into a cover. Without a leg hooked, Kazarian was able to kick out – but he’d stumble into a TKO from Sky. Sky didn’t notice Lambert & Page getting involved, and could have some choice words for Page.
Things would get heated, before Sky showed his true colours and rocked Kazarian. Sammy Guevara made the save – and could be looking for another shot at Sky.
