While a lot of the focus with New Japan Pro Wrestling is going to be on the G1 Climax, it’s not the only thing NJPW will be doing in the back end of July. In the United States, we’re set for another big NJPW Strong PPV event, taking place as part of Starcast & Summerslam weekend. NJPW Music City Mayhem is starting to take shape, with three big matches already announced.
Jon Moxley To Wrestle For NJPW At Music City Mayhem
First up is Jon Moxley vs. El Desperado in a No DQ match. It’s a simple match, but one that could land on a good deal of Match of the Year lists. El Desperado was around for Forbidden Door, wrestling on the preshow alongside Yoshinobu Kanemaru to face Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland. After this, he’d call out Jon Moxley – who is someone who doesn’t know how to turn down a fight.
Second up, we have Blake Christian vs. Hiromu Takahashi. Since being release from WWE, Blake Christian has been proving that despite lacking size – he’s one of the best wrestlers in the world today. Going up against the man who recently won the Best of the Super Juniors tournament will allow for Christian to really show his skills against someone who can match his speed.
Finally, we have Davey Richards vs. Clark Connors. While he’s not known for his time in NJPW, Richards returns after a decade away – and the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion is ready to show he’s as good as ever. Connors meanwhile is proving himself after a failed run in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament, and a loss at Forbidden Door.
This show will come on July 31st, and live coverage will be available right here on TheOvertimer. More matches will be announced over the next month, and will focus on names not in the G1 Climax, meaning lots of NJPW Strong names as well as junior heavyweights. There’s potential for a great card, and will be a great show for those wanting something different following Summerslam.
