Several decades since the appearance of the first Rocky movie passed. Now, after more than 40 years Sylvester Stallone decides to jab and cross with the producer and try to get a slice of the fortune that the mega-popular movie generates over the years.
When you think of Sylvester Stallone you cannot help but not think of Rocky and Rambo. These two iconic characters are the ones that mark his career. The 76-year-old Sly decides to go on social media and express his views on the situation with his masterpiece. He says that he has no financial stake in the Rocky series. He describes it as ‘painful’ to have ‘zero ownership’ of something that came out of your imagination.
Sylvester Stallone Tries To Get A Piece Of The Rights For Rocky Film Series
The producer of all six Rocky movies, plus the spinoff Creed series is the famous Irwin Winkler. Currently, he holds complete rights for both Rocky and Creed. He made more than $1.5 billion accumulatively from all Rocky and Creed movies. Now Sly decides to take what is his.
Stallone requested what is righteously his through an Instagram post. The movie legend shared a portrait of Winkler, showing him as a snake with a tongue in a form of a knife. Alongside the photo, Stallone wrote a caption stating: “A VERY Flattering portrait of The Great Rocky/ Creed Producer, Irwin Winkler, from one of the country’s greatest artist (sic).”
Stallone’s plan is to leave a stake in the franchise to his five children.
“After Irwin controlling ‘Rocky’ for over 47 years, and now ‘Creed’, I really would like to have at least a little of WHAT’S LEFT of my rights back, before passing it on to ONLY YOUR CHILDREN — I believe that would be a fair gesture from this 93-year-old gentleman?” – Stallone states.
“This is a painful subject that eats at my soul because I wanted to leave something of Rocky for my children, but it’s always great hearing from the loyal fans… Keep punching.” – Stallone adds to his Instagram post.
This post came second to a previous message by the Rocky actor that slams a book by Winkler’s son. Stallone calls the book an “unbearable worthless dreck”. Sly continues to blame Irvin Winkler for a lack of creativity. He states that if it would be up to him only, he would have done at least three more Rocky movies.
The original 1976 movie Rocky is conceived, written, and starred by Stallone himself. For that, he got Oscar nominations for best actor and best original screenplay. Additionally, the movie won several awards at the 49th Academy Awards.
What do you think? Did the producer of the movie damage Stallone?
