It’s time to crown the first ever AEW Trio’s Champions, and what better way to decide the best trio in AEW than with a tournament. Tonight, we get the first match of said tournament, with two top contenders. In one corner, we have La Faccion Ingobernable. RUSH, Andrade El Idolo, and making his AEW debut – Dragon Lee. Lucha libre greatness runs through their blood, and championships generally find their way around their wastes.
In the other corner, we have The Young Bucks – for two time AEW World Tag Team Champions… and failed to recruit Hangman Page to their side. They had to find another option, and they found someone to be in their corner. Brandon Cutler was with them on the way to the ring, but then we heard a Battle Cry.
Justin Roberts would hype up the accomplishments of a certain former AEW World Champion, and the crowd went absolutely insane when Kenny Omega would hit the ring. He’s been out of the ring since November 2021, and Don Callis was here too. Multiple surgeries have put the Best Bout Machine back together – and it’s time for the main event.
Kenny Omega Has Some Ring Rust
Dragon Lee & Nick Jackson would kick things off with some serious speed, before Omega would get the tag ten months in the making. He’d hit the elbow smash, before some downward punches in the corner. Rolling fireman carry would land, and Omega couldn’t bounce up into the moonsault – some ring rust is here, but he’d hit the Blue Shadow, before Young Bucks hit the neckbreaker.
The Elite cut the ring in half, but Lee would get the tag after Omega lost the grip. Andrade & RUSH would hit some heavy blows, before Lee would go after that shoulder with an armbar. On the floor, RUSH would decide to kick Cutler in the face. RUSH would also use one of the title belts to hit Nick Jackson right in the face.
Omega would go Ricky to Robert, breaking across the ring – allowing Nick Jackson to make the hot tag. Matt would maintain control with the locomotion northern lights suplexes – before RUSH would stop this. Omega would help Young Bucks take RUSH down, before the backbreaker on Lee. Young Bucks would hit the elbow drops from the top rope, before LFI would take control of Matt for a three on one attack.
The Elite Isn’t Just A Name
LFI would cut the ring in half now, with Andrade even going ahead and spitting in the face of Nick on the apron. Andrade would get a one count on Matt with a cocky cradle pinfall. RUSH would fake Matt out with the Bulls Horns – before Nick turned this into a brawl.
OMega would get the tag with some double axe handles, before missing. RUSH & Andrade tried to double team Omega, who hit the snapdragon suplexes on anyone he could grab. Lee would get hit with a bucklebomb, with two kicks also awaiting him. Superkick Party from The Elite would have to be broken up by Andrade & RUSH.
Lee & Omega would remain in the ring, with Omega dodging a rush – before wanting the Terminator Dive, but his knee gave out on the first try, with Jose tripping him the second time. RUSH would prop him on the barricade, and Lee drove him into the crowd. Somehow, Omega kicked out in the ring – even after a a moonsault from Andrade.
Hammerlock DDT would almost do it, before Omega was saved. V-Trigger would be launched, and One Winged Angel got the finish – and the crowd went wild for The Elite advancing. Did you expect Kenny Omega to return tonight? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
