A Florida Dollar General employee has been arrested after he poured bleach into a co-worker’s drink following a dispute. It was definitely a jump in reaction for Jerome Ellis of DeLand. The argument happened the day prior, Ellis wasn’t letting it go, and the victim gave his co-worker an opening to exact revenge.
Drama at Florida Dollar General as Disgruntled Worker Poisons Co-Worker by Pouring Bleach into Drink for Being Difficult
The victim left an open can of Pepsi—that he had every intention to finish–unattended as he left to use the restroom. Ellis poured bleach into the soft drink while his co-worker was away but the victim knew something was up by the taste.
Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies checked the surveillance footage in the store and spotted Ellis poisoning the Pepsi before wiping the can and walking off. He would also return to spit into the soda. More footage showed Ellis attempting to disconnect the cameras that caught the whole thing.
In speaking with deputies, Jerome Ellis said that he and the victim had no problems. He also said that he had the bleach—apparently, it was opened like the Pepsi–and that it simply spilled behind the counter.
The story didn’t pass the smell test with the deputies who hit him with the footage. His story changed and he said that he put the bleach around the rim of the can as a measure of revenge.
Jerome Ellis was charged with poisoning food or water and tampering with evidence. Currently, he sits in Volusia County Jail.
