Leaving Brownsville, Texas for a trip to the always busy Hidalgo International Bridge for a big November 2, 2022 cocaine bust that rivaled some of the Brownsville busts. On top of that, there was a second bust later that day at the Pharr International Bridge.
The CBP Seize Almost 95 POUNDS of Cocaine During Two Busts in Texas – Estimated Street Value of Over $1.26 MILLION
In the first bust, a Chevy sedan rolled into the Hidalgo International Bridge checkpoint and was moved along for the dreaded secondary inspection. In this inspection, only the non-intrusive inspection system (NII) was used to detect something suspicious hidden inside.
During the physical search, officers fished out 12 packages that were revealed to be 25.61 pounds of cocaine.
Sometime later, CBP officers stationed at the Pharr International Bridge forwarded a trailer tractor for further inspection. This time, both the NII system and the canine team were deployed and found something inside.
When officers searched the trailer they found 25 packages with 68.87 pounds of cocaine.
Combined, the drugs had an estimated street value of $1,261,600. The CBP seized the cocaine and the smuggling vehicle. Meanwhile, the driver was taken in by ICE-HIS for further investigation. Port Director Carlos Rodriguez said the following about the busts:
“Thanks to their experience and effective utilization of all available tools and resources, our CBP officers were able to thwart these smuggling attempts.”
