CBP San Diego Agents Score Beefy Cocaine Bust Worth $1.4 MILLION On the Street
The vehicle—a white 2001 Ford Edge—was heading north on Interstate 15 when agents stopped it at a checkpoint near Temecula. A K-9 unit was deployed to inspect the vehicle and caught wind of drugs inside the SUV.
When agents performed a physical search, they turned up 41 packages with what turned out to be cocaine.
Note that while the CBP normally lists the total weight of packages, this time only the street value was mentioned at $1,401,000. The smuggler was described as a 33-year-old male Mexican citizen.
Authorities are charging him with charges related to drug trafficking while the coke was handed over to Homeland Security Investigations. As for the 2001 Ford Edge, it remains in CBP custody.
Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke said of the CBP’s work:
“Criminal organizations go to great lengths to conceal and smuggle dangerous narcotics in order to make millions in profits. This is done without regard for the health and safety of our communities. I am proud of our Border Patrol agents’ vigilant efforts to keep this poison off the streets.”
