Our final seizure of the CBP Brownsville office involves the biggest smuggling run of the four coke busts at the border. This one is similar to a bust the day prior on November 2, 2022 only it occurred at the Los Indios International Bridge.
Border Patrol Officers Seize Almost 45 POUNDS of Cocaine to Wrap Up 4-Day Drug Seizure Streak – Estimated at Almost $596K on the Street
On November 3, 2022, a 2008 Jeep rolled into the Los Indios International Bridge checkpoint and was driven by a 44-year-old woman who was—just like the bust the day before—an American citizen staying in Matamoros. Given that they had dealt with three days of cocaine seizures, the CBP referred the woman to a secondary inspection of the vehicle.
If you’ve been following our coverage of drug busts or border busts this year, you know what secondary inspection means. Both the NII system and a drug-sniffing dog detected something in the vehicle.
When the border officers searched the Jeep, they found 18 packages wrapped up with a white substance inside alleged to be coke.
What they tend to deal with that is a white substance is either cocaine, meth or fentanyl the majority of the time. Of course, officers turned up 44.62 pounds of coke with an estimated street value of $595,784.
This seizure brings the total street value of the four busts to $1,448,249. Port Director Tater Ortiz said of the seizures:
“Our CBP officers used multiple law enforcement tools to discover and seize these dangerous narcotics and our streets are safer for their diligence.”
As in the previous cases, Homeland Security Investigations took over the investigation into this seizure. With the other busts and all of them coming from Matamoros, do you believe that these four busts are all related to the same organization?
Maybe some are and others are associated with other organizations—a kind of cocaine free-for-all in the fall?
Let us know your thoughts on the busts in the comments.
