Emmy Award-winning actress Anne Heche was in a coma before passing away following an August 2022 car crash that left her suffering from severe burns. At the time, there was a mystery surrounding what caused the crash before it was revealed that she had been speeding and driving erratically before the crash.
That only raised more questions that haven’t been exactly answered with the recent autopsy and toxicology findings from the Los Angeles Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office.
Toxicology and Autopsy Findings Reveal That Anne Heche Had Cocaine and Marijuana In Her System – Car Crash-Related Death Still a Mystery
The results of her blood and urine tests show that she had used cocaine and marijuana prior to the crash, according to People. However, the cocaine had been metabolized and the marijuana was found in her urine and not in her blood.
Also found in the test was fentanyl which was given to her after the accident and was only discovered following the autopsy. While the back-to-back crashes were the cause of her hospitalization, the report lists “anoxic brain injury” brought on by being unable to get enough oxygen.
Heche’s inability to take in enough oxygen was caused by the burns she suffered from the second crash and the fire that followed.
The medical examiner’s findings explain how she died and what was found in her body that could’ve caused it but since it was determined that drugs played no role in what she did, questions about why she was driving erratically and speeding in the first place persist.
