In Pike County, Missouri, a former small-town police chief has been charged with second-degree murder in the overdose death of his girlfriend’s brother. The death of 24-year-old Gabriel Thone occurred in October 2021 and it is alleged that the drugs came from an evidence locker to which Louisiana, Missouri chief William E. Jones (50) had access.
Former Missouri Police Chief Charged with the Second-Degree Murder of Girlfriend’s Brother
Thone was found on the floor of Jones’ bedroom along with his brother. Emergency services managed to revive Thone’s brother who also overdosed. When a connection was made between, his girlfriend Alexis Thone, and the addictive nature of the siblings, authorities took a closer look at the police chief.
During an interview with Jones, the former police chief said that he didn’t know that drugs were being used in his house. Meanwhile, Alexis Thone said that she didn’t know where her brothers got the narcotics. She was charged with possession of a controlled substance and second-degree drug trafficking in October 2021.
Second-degree murder isn’t the only charge against William E. Jones. The other charges were related to drug trafficking as he was accused of stealing from the police evidence locker, throwing out drug testing kits, and trafficking fentanyl. He was removed from his position when signs began to point to his involvement in the murder of Thone.
