Police in Roy, Utah arrested a man who shot and killed his ailing wife. Dave Meyer (69) claimed that he killed her to end her suffering from severe pain as a result of a car accident.
Utah Man Arrested and Charged in the Shooting Death of Wife – Claims He Killed His Wife Because She Was Suffering from Back Pain and Nerve Damage
Suzanne Meyer was found after police did a search of the house. In addition to admitting that he killed his wife, Meyer said that he had killed her several days before calling the police. Detectives believe that the murder occurred on January 17, 2023.
After his rights were read, Dave Meyer was very forthcoming about why he’d killed his wife. According to Meyer, Suzanne was in a car accident 11 years earlier. The incident reportedly left the 62-year-old woman with back pain and nerve damage.
According to the Roy City PD, Meyer told investigators that his wife had been asking him to kill her for some time because of the pain. He also explained the day Suzanne was killed:
“Dave was rubbing his wife’s back. Dave stated he saw his 9MM pistol located on the dresser near his bed. Dave described rubbing his wife’s back with his left hand and holding the pistol in his right hand. Dave stated he shot his wife where he stated believed to be her temple, killing her. Dave stated that he then left her body to be in the room for several days before reporting the incident.”
Dave Meyer was charged with first-degree felony murder and second-degree felony obstruction of justice. The second charge is a result of not reporting his wife’s death when it happened. I’m sharing details about his life with Suzanne, Meyer said that they used marijuana for the last 10 years but didn’t have a medical use card. Authorities charged Meyers with two counts of illegal firearm possession. Meyer is currently being held without bail.
