In a scene that was going to result in a response from law enforcement, a man was arrested while walking through bushes near Pineapple Cove Academy, an elementary school. The suspect was spotted wielding a rifle as well.
Authorities in Florida Arrest a Man Wielding a Rifle Near an Elementary School
Before 8 AM on January 24, 2023, authorities from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the Palm Bay PD responded to the Palm Bay Road area after receiving the report. Both agencies joined the West Melbourne PD in establishing a perimeter around Pineapple Cove Academy.
The school was put on lockdown and the search for suspect was underway. A combination of helicopters from the BCSO and a K-9 were able to track the man down: Enrique Christen Martinez (25). According to the the West Melbourne PD, Martinez didn’t have the rifle on him at the time.
Following a search of the area, the rifle was found and Enrique Martinez was charged with possession of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school. He was put in the Brevard County Jail on a $2,000 bond.
Weeks earlier on January 9, Martinez was hit with possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug equipment in Pasco County.
