AEW Dynamite begins with Cody standing alone in the dark in the ring. Says he always felt like what we do is small in comparison to the rest of the world but this situation has taught him how small we all are. He know understands more than ever how important the service they provide is. He now asks three elite athletes to put aside their differences and he understands the irony of that. Puts over how Matt Jackson, aside from Tony Khan, is perhaps the most important person in making AEW a thing. But his anger towards Hangman Page last week is not what they need, he needs his older brother’s maturity.
Cody says he finds Hangman Page to be the best wrestler in the Elite. He has the perfect blend of light heavyweight speed and precision with heavyweight stopping power. But he lost to Jericho and he needs him to get over it. Moves on to Kenny Omega, who he mentions that he never gets along with. They can bicker over who is 1A and who is 1B, he appreciates that neither of them want to bridesmaids because this isn’t a wedding, it’s Blood and Guts! Cody says he needs the Elite to be the Elite.
Matt Jackson and Kenny Omega make their way out.
Kenny admits much the same that he and Cody never see eye-to-eye. Says that we are in a time of our life where everything seems to be falling apart, we don’t even know if there will be a Dynamite next week! But he says if they’re going out, they should go out the way they started, as the Elite! Matt talks about how bad a state they’re in. Nick Jackson has been in the hospital, he is out indefinitely. And Hangman isn’t even here, he calls Page out. He comes out to the stage drinking. Matt asks if he’ll finally stand alongside them. Page gives them a thumbs up. Kenny says he knows he’s talking to an empty arena but moreso, to everyone watching at home and while it’s hard to feel their energy, he knows it’s there. Kenny tells the people in the back, for the love of God, raise the lights, hit the pyro and let’s start AEW Dynamite!
Announcers introduce the show. In the stands, MJF is being interviewed by Tony Schiavone, says he’s not wrestling tonight because frankly he doesn’t have to. Says the winner’s purse being offered is probably a lot of money to everyone else but not to him. Says he’ll let the lower card talent have their TV time. Him and Shawn Spears are apparently gambling on tonight’s matches.
