Ghislaine Maxwell is arguing in her appeal of her sex trafficking conviction that her mistreatment while in detention was so severe that it rendered her unable to construct a proper legal defense.
Ghislaine Maxwell Looking To Appeal Her Sex Trafficking Conviction, Claiming Inhumane Treatment In Prison
She will insist that she was unable to adequately aid in the court proceedings due to the dismal circumstances in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where she was detained prior to her trial, which left her significantly fatigued and deprived of sleep.
The plea will argue that this was the factor behind her not giving evidence in her trial for bringing in and dealing young girls to the defunct pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Maxwell was convicted of conspiring to lure and transport minors for the purpose of taking part in prohibited sexual activities and plotting sex trafficking.
She has consistently proclaimed her innocence, and in a discussion with a journalist while she was in jail, she expressed her regret for ever connecting with Epstein.
Arthur L. Aidala, who happens to be her attorney, had this to say: “By the time of trial, she was so disoriented and diminished that she was unable meaningfully to assist in her own defense, much less to testify.”
The social media response was damning. A certain subset of people were of the view that Maxwell had no one to blame but herself since her behavior had earnt her no sympathy. And in the process of doing so, the comments were brutal indeed.
One person wrote: “When you’re use to the lifestyle of the rich and famous, anything not quite up to that standard seems like a major depravation.”
While another person stated: “She’s probably correct…She even looks inhuman….she should be in prison for her looks alone.” We will have to see how this will all play out.
So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
