We already know two of the teams who will attempt to put an early end to the AEW World Tag Team Championship reign of The Gunns. The Acclaimed used their rematch clause, while Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett won the Battle Royale last week to qualify. Now tonight, we have a Casino Battle Royale – with the last team standing getting their last minute ticket to AEW Revolution, and a chance to get to the top of the best tag team division in the world of professional wrestling.
Teams Flood The Ring As The Tag Team Casino Battle Royale Begins
Dark Order & Blackpool Combat Club were the first two teams in this match, and they wouldn’t reach the ring before this turned into a massive brawl. John Silver & Claudio Castagnoli would split off, with Alex Reynolds taking on Wheeler Yuta. They’d finally get back into the ring, and teams are eliminated by both members being sent over the top rope with both feet hitting the floor.
Silver would almost eliminate Yuta, but was unable to seal the deal. The third team in was RUSH & Preston Vance of La Faccion Ingobernable, and would simply look to smash their opponents as they rushed the ring. Lucha Bros were next, with Rey Fenix & Penta El Zero Miedo local favourites. Penta took down LFI with sling blades, before a set of superkicks landed.
Fenix would head to the apron to battle with Castagnoli, being dropped with a big boot but remaining in the match. Penta would save his brother, before looking to work together to take Castagnoli down. Aussie Open from New Japan Pro Wrestling were next, after their amazing match with Young Bucks from AEW Rampage last week – with Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher eager to get a title shot.
Fenix was hit with the Dental Plan kick, before Aussie Open took Dark Order out of the match in one swoop. RUSH would brawl with Penta on the floor, both men going through the ropes – not over the top. Matt Menard & Angelo Parker were out next, taking their time hitting the ring much like last week’s traditional battle royale.
Danhausen & Orange Cassidy Defy Odds To Earn Title Shot
RUSH would tear at the mask of Fenix, as Top Flight was the next team to hit the ring – a team with a great Battle Royale record. Their speed would be used to quickly cut Yuta down, before almost taking Castagnoli out. Menard hit the ring and was taken out quickly, with Parker hiding on the floor.
Matt Taven & Mike Bennett of The Kingdom was out next, with Tony Nese & Josh Woods pulling Lucha Bros to the floor and beating them down – despite not being involved in this match. Penta & Fenix were easy prey for LFI following this, with Vance & RUSH eliminated shortly after by Top Flight.
Aussie Open would brawl with Top Flight in the middle of the ring, with Top Flight showing they can hang with heavy hitters – not just one note highfliers. Dante & Darius Martin made the mistake of going to the top rope, and were sent out. Danhausen & Orange Cassidy were in next – filling in for Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta despite Cassidy wrestling Big Bill to start this show.
They’d make quick work of Angelo Parker, as The Butcher & The Blade made their way to the ring – with Butcher being the leader in Battle Royale eliminations around 18 in his AEW career. The Kingdom & Aussie Open were quickly taken out by Butcher, Blade & Blackpool Combat Club.
The final three teams would clash, with Dark Order coming to ringside and distracting Blackpool Combat Club – leading to Cassidy & Danhausen taking them out. Butcher & Blade would attack, with Danhausen fighting both men as Cassidy caught his breath. Drag The Lake took Danhausen down, and Cassidy took a Stunner into a lariat. Cassidy would narrowly avoid elimination – with Danhausen taking out both Butcher & Blade to earn the title shot,
Bryan Danielson Promises To Leave San Francisco As NEW AEW World Champion
This Sunday is one of the biggest nights in the career of MJF. He was able to win the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley at AEW Full Gear, but got a major assist from William Regal. Now, he’s walking into a Sixty Minute Iron Man match against Bryan Danielson with the belt on the line, and no one to help him win but himself. We already know that MJF & Danielson hate each other, with a massive brawl last week showing how heated this feud has gotten.
Danielson would hit the ring with a smile on his face, and giving Renee Paquette a stiff high five with the arm that MJF targeted for the past few months. Renee would bring up an old social media post from MJF when he decided to pursue his dreams of being a professional wrestler. In 2014 was when Danielson originally retired, but fought to return. MJF would try to come out and speak, but Danielson asked him to shut up.
We’ve heard why MJF hates Danielson, but it boils down to jealousy. MJF took every shortcut to become champion, and if he deserves anything in life – it was his fiancee leaving him. Danielson would bring up MJF’s “putting shoulders to mat and banging ring rats” catchphrase, which tells it all.
Danielson has fought for everything he got in professional wrestling. He could have taken a job for life in WWE – but came to AEW to fight. Danielson wants that AEW World Championship, and he’s came short three times but is willing to fight for it once again. Sixty minutes of fighting comes on Sunday – and MJF is going to get his fucking head kicked in.
