Tonight would see the latest addition to long standing New Japan Pro Wrestling faction Bullet Club. David Finlay had teased a new member joining the group, someone who has been overlooked for too long as part of the NJPW roster.
We would see this new member revealed at NJPW Capital Collision – as LA Dojo graduate Clark Connors has now joined Bullet Club.
Clark Connors Joins Bullet Club
Fans would suspect something was happening after the opening match of the show. Connors was on the losing team of a ten man tag team match, and would attack LA Dojo trainee The DKC after the match, someone he had been working alongside just moments earlier. He showed a new level of aggression, but it could have just been a simple heel turn.
Things would become more clear following David Finlay’s match with AR Fox. Finlay would call for the latest member of Bullet Club to hit the ring. Connors would be the man to come out. He would join Finlay in a Too Sweet, confirming his addition to the faction.
Finlay would say that Connors was wronged by NJPW, left off tours of Japan, and his trainer Katsuyori Shibata is too busy winning championships in Ring of Honor to help Connors in any meaningful way. Connors now fills the gap El Phantasmo left in the faction – with ELP recently kicked out of the group by Finlay.
Who Is In David Finlay’s Bullet Club Anyways?
One major thing that was pushed by commentary on Capital Collision was that David Finlay views his Bullet Club as the only Bullet Club that actually counts.
He doesn’t recognize the newly formed Bullet Club Gold in AEW, formed by Jay White & Juice Robinson. Rogue Army was also noted as being something that Finlay doesn’t recognize, that being a splinter group formed by Bad Luck Fale for NJPW TAMASHII.
We have to assume this also means House of Torture will no longer be recognized, with the EVIL led splinter group having only a loose link to the group at this time.
Right now, confirmed members of Bullet Club are David Finlay, Clark Connors, Taiji Ishimori, Gedo, Chase Owens, and NJPW Strong Openweight Champion KENTA. Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions Ace Austin & Chris Bey are also linked to Bullet Club, and are expected to be part of Best of the Super Juniors next month.
Needless to say, a Bullet Club civil war is as likely as ever. There are many groups who will be at odds due to the actions of David Finlay. Bullet Club Gold is likely to be the biggest threat to Finlay’s leadership, as Jay White is perhaps the most cunning man in professional wrestling.
