All eyes were on New Zealand’s Jay White earlier this year. He had finished up with New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he won every eligible singles championship – and main evented some of their biggest shows.
Both WWE & AEW were aiming to get him on their roster – and when White showed up on Dynamite, the roster was put on notice. Ricky Starks was the main target of White & Juice Robinson, but tonight White makes his in-ring debut as a full time member of AEW’s roster against Komander.
It’s Still The Jay White Era
White would quickly show his power edge, shoving Komander into the corner before some stiff stomps. Komander would be choked with the boot of White, while Robinson yelling into his ear. Shawn Spears was watching from ringside, and would cringe at the sound of one of White’s Switchblade chops.
Komander was able to hit a back heel kick, sending White into the corner. White was able to block a springboard armdrag attempt on the first go, but Komander’s control of the ropes would ensure that White was taken down to the floor. Komander would get fancy, going for the tightrope walk – with White there to stop him.
White would take an enziguri to the back of the head – before Komander went for a moonsault press. He’d land on his feet as White avoided, before slamming Komander onto the ring apron. Shawn Spears would rate White’s next chop as a 4, with the one that followed only getting a 6.
Scoop Slam in the ring would get a 6, with Spears really getting into the egotistical mind of White. Komander would kick out of two quick pinfall attempts, before a tight rear chinlock was applied.
White would hit some downward punches before trading chops with Komander, and his NJPW Dojo days ensured that Komander didn’t even come close to winning the exchange.
Ricky Starks & Shawn Spears Stand Up To Bullet Club Gold
Komander would instead get a quick Seatbelt Pinfall, getting a near fall – and White was concerned. He’d hit a stiff lariat before setting up the Bladerunner. Komander would fight free and hit a thrust kick, before the tightrope walk into the dive saw Komander soar onto White.
Rope Walk Shooting Star Press got a two count, and a Springboard Phoenix Splash was likewise not enough. Komander kept the pressure on, but White would catch him with the Sleeper Suplex and Blade Runner was the finish. Spears gave the finish a 7.
After the bell, Spears was attacked by Bullet Club Gold. Ricky Starks would come to make the save, nailing a huge spear on Robinson, and White would make a tactical retreat.
Starks & Spears won’t be letting this stand – and we could see some tag team action soon. Adding in Action Andretti, Starks could even find the numbers edge against BCG – provided no new members emerge.
Adam Cole Finally Meets His Hero
When Adam Cole made his in-ring return to AEW, he taught Daniel Garcia why he was special. Cole would get a major celebration after his match with Garcia, something which rubbed Chris Jericho the wrong way. Jericho would go as far as to call Cole disrespectful.
After defeating Keith Lee last week on AEW Dynamite, Cole would hit the ring to ensure Lee remained safe after the bell – and his music playing instead of Jericho’s would further anger the former AEW World Champion. Tonight, Jericho & Cole meet face to face – and both will have a lot to say.
Jericho would note a lot of love for Cole in Pittsburgh. Cole would admit that he’s taken heavy inspiration from Jericho. He was a huge fan, reading Jericho’s first book during High School – and wanting to be like Jericho. Now, he gets to share a ring with Jericho, and does have a ton of respect for what Jericho does.
Chris Jericho Hits Cole Where It Hurts
They would shake hands, and Jericho appreciates when people show respect like that. However, Jericho still has zero respect for the likes of Cole. Jericho thinks Cole is an arrogant son of a bitch – and Cole is lucky that he doesn’t just have the taste slapped out of his mouth.
Cole would ask if the real Chris Jericho is then type of man who requires the help of the Jericho Appreciation Society to win his fights. If that’s true, the real Chris Jericho is a fickle stupid idiot.
Cole would point out that Jericho called him out, and asked if Jericho had a point. Jericho would tell Cole to get out of his ring before shoving him – leading to a brawl.
Daniel Garcia would be right there to make the save – with Britt Baker coming to save Cole. She’d slap Jericho, only for The Outcasts to come from behind to beat Baker down.
Cole would be handcuffed to the bottom rope as The Outcasts would beat down Baker. Jericho grabbed a kendo stick, and Cole dared him to do it.
Instead, Jericho handed the stick to Saraya – knowing hurting Baker will do more to hurt Cole in the long term. Cole would plead for Saraya & Jericho to stop – as the crowd started a chant, calling them pieces of shit.
