Stevie Richards has documented his recovery following a hospital stay for extreme back and spine problems earlier in the year and it’s great news for fans of the ECW alumnus. In a video, Richards shows his medical journey from going in to rehabilitation to being able to run along the beach.
Former ECW and WWE Superstar Stevie Richards Posts Video Showing His Recovery After Going into the Hospital in Early 2023 for Back and Spine Problems
Ultimately, that’s the goal when combating back issues as a wrestler: at least getting back to moving around freely enough to where they care for themselves and others independently.
Richards was released from the hospital back in February 2023 after he ran into some extreme back pain while doing his morning workout.
The blue World order co-founder would go into the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. While the hospital admission was concerning enough for fans getting the news, imagine Stevie Richards being told that his injuries could’ve been fatal if left untreated or diagnosed.
It all came down to an unusual experience during his daily routine that let him know “Something’s very wrong here” as its not usual for people to let injuries ride even with minor pain.
Following an April spine biopsy, the former 21-time WWE Hardcore Champion was started on IV antibiotic therapy. The next step for Richards was to replace the IV with his tried-and-true approach of utilizing cardio and weight-training equipment.
It appears that he is rapidly moving in that direction as the IV therapy has made way to oral antibiotics. At this stage in his recovery, he can resume exercise and has returned to the gym. At the same time, he remains very cautious as the spine infection blindsided him while he was exercising:
“This thing creeped up, out of nowhere, over the course of 7-8 months, and put me in a bed and a walker. I wanna make sure that it is indeed gone.”
Perhaps this is a case like Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar tanking neck injuries because of their neck strength—a product of their exercise regimens during their active periods in-ring.
Stevie Richards remained in great physical shape throughout his career with him showing off his work in the gym during his WWE and Extreme Rising runs.
The life-threatening spine injury he suffered could’ve been much worse if he hadn’t kept up his exercise. Congratulations to Stevie Richards for literally getting back on his feet and making progress in his recovery.
