Many times now, we’ve talked about how dominant of a champion Orange Cassidy has been. Since winning the AEW International Championship, he’s made a staggering 23 defences.

At Double or Nothing 2023, he even defended against 20 men in a Blackjack Battle Royale – with Swerve Stickland being the last man standing against Cassidy.

After defeating Big Bill & Trent Beretta last week in a triple threat match, Swerve is ready for his one on one shot against Cassidy. This reign has broken Cassidy down to a high degree – and tonight could finally be his breaking point.

Swerve Strickland Has Injured Prey In Orange Cassidy

Cassidy came into this match with his neck, back, and right hand taped up – showing the toll his reign had taken on his body. Swerve would look for the JML Driver immediately, but Cassidy was able to slip free. Cassidy would be taken down to the mat, with Swerve putting pressure on the back.

Swerve would end up in an Octopus Stretch as Cassidy found his footing, using his technical wrestling skills tonight. Cassidy was thrown off and tried for the DDT, but was tossed off to the ropes – where he lured Swerve in and sent him tumbling to the floor.

Swerve would welcome Cassidy to the floor, where he used the ring post to further injure the hand of Cassidy – further weakening the Orange Punch.

A hurricanrana on the floor would stun Swerve, with Cassidy quickly following up with a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Cassidy would hit a diving crossbody – but was unable to follow up.

A battle in the corner led to both men crashing to the floor, Prince Nana would help Swerve get the upper hand, distracting Cassidy as Swerve set up a pump kick to the face off the apron.

A diving uppercut to the neck of Cassidy would follow, and a cocky pinfall got Swerve a two count. Swerve applied a crossface chickenwing, but Cassidy was able to fight free – and prevented a JML Driver. Cassidy would throw some elbow smashes, before catching Swerve with a superkick.

Back And Forth Action From Two Workhorses On AEW Roster

Beach Break would be blocked, but a Brainbuster from Swerve was blocked into the Stundog Millionaire. Swerve remained on the offensive and looked for the House Call kick – with Cassidy avoiding before the jumping Flatliner caused a double down. Cassidy got a two count off a backslide, before a swinging DDT for another near fall.

Heading to the apron, Cassidy would make a mistake – and was hit with a Death Valley Driver onto the apron. Swerve Stomp would be set on the apron, but Cassidy pulled himself out of range and got a chance to regroup. A series of superkicks would set up Swerve on the steel steps, with Cassidy rushing forward for a DDT to the floor.

Cassidy took to the top rope for a diving DDT, but Swerve was able to kick out. Orange Punch was blocked into a Pop Up Powerbomb, with Cassidy making a last second counter into the hurricanrana for a two count.

Prince Nana ran a distraction, but Swerve was run into him before the Orange Punch and Beach Break – only getting a near fall.

Sting & Darby Allin Make The Save As Cassidy Once Again Prevails As Champion

Swerve would roll to the floor, and Cassidy tried to dive into a Suicide DDT – but was caught in a brainbuster on the floor. House Call kick was dodged in the ring for the Crucifix Pinfall getting two.

House Call would land before the Swerve Stomp, somehow not putting Cassidy down for the three count. JML Driver was countered, with Cassidy getting a roll up counter to earn defense #24.

The Mogul Embassay would attack after the bell – but the lights went out, with Darby Allin & Sting making the save with baseball bats – saving their ally Orange Cassidy.
