In early 2022, Tony Khan would secure the fate of Ring of Honor. Having taken heavy blows due to the COVID-19 pandemic and being dropped by Sinclair Broadcasting – many felt ROH Final Battle 2021 would have been the end of the company.
Instead, Khan would announce on an episode of AEW Dynamite that he had purchased the company and all media rights. Since then, he’s ran successful PPV events and rebooted their weekly TV, but the overlap between the AEW & ROH roster has left some fans and wrestlers scratching their heads on who belongs where.
The Butcher Doesn’t Know Who Goes Where Between AEW & ROH
While speaking with Josh Nason on the Punch-Out podcast, The Butcher would express some confusion on who belongs to what company.
“I think there’s like some dudes that are just under the All Elite umbrella, and then there are guys that are just under the ROH umbrella. I know for the most part, a lot of the guys are just under the main thing. So if you’re needed at ROH, you can go into ROH and do ROH. But I know there are some dudes that have exclusive ROH deals. It’s pretty confusing sometimes.”
Since the relaunch of ROH on HonorClub, Butcher has appeared alongside The Blade & Kip Sabian for the trios division. With only one match in ROH, Butcher is still firmly placed under the AEW umbrella – but is comfortable floating between shows. Soon, ROH will be taped ahead of AEW Collision – potentially dictating who appears on ROH TV more clearly.
Providing An Injury Update On The Bunny
During the same interview, Butcher would provide an update on another factionmate in The Bunny. Taken off TV due to injury without much extra detail, fans were unsure of her status – but she’s set to return very soon.
“The Bunny hurt her orbital. She broke her orbital. She’s doing really good. I’m sure she’s going to be back soon. That’s the thing is when something like that — I think she came from an injury, too. So she was injured for a bit, then had a couple of matches and got injured. That’s gotta crush your confidence. The good thing is, since she’s been gone, we’ve been kind of building this new little faction thing. So when she comes back, it’ll be awesome.”
While Butcher, Blade, Sabian, Penelope Ford & Bunny tend to get lost in the shuffle of AEW – a potential brand split between Dynamite & Collision or a move to ROH could easily see them become a dominant faction.
