In what is one of WWE’s most popular and disgustingly shameful storylines, the focus has been on Jeff Hardy’s past substance abuse problems with Sheamus as the grumpy protagonist that’s tired of Jeff getting break after break.
Over the last few weeks, things have picked up between these two from Jeff doing a urine test and throwing it into Sheamus’ face and Sheamus beating him at Backlash.
Last week, Jeff gave a deep interview about his past demons and admitted he’s had problems but does everything he can to not go to that dark place. Given the subject matter, Jeff’s done a great job of being uplifting and showing nothing is hopeless, though it’s also being done without the WWE putting out information for people to use to contact someone if they need help. Even the 1980s cartoons did that much.
This happened while Sheamus was backstage watching and Kayla approached him and asked if he had any response.
His response was along the lines of people like Jeff Hardy are weak and deserve to be bullied. He went on to say he’s going to host a toast as only a “proper Irishman can.”
He also mentioned how he was disappointed he didn’t crush Jeff’s voice box so he wouldn’t have to hear him continue to whine.
Toast
Sheamus has invited his Smackdown peers to break out the glasses and grab some bottles to join him in a toast to the legendary Jeff Hardy.
There’s no doubt this is going to go sideways from the start as Sheamus won’t leave Jeff in peace and will coax, bride, or threaten as many superstars as she can to be at ringside for this event.
This feels cheap with everyone at ringside for a second week in a row for another “friendly” get together, but with WWE creative still trying to find their footing after further changes this somehow fits.
We expect Jeff to come out and a brawl to ensue to build more heat heading into Extreme Rules with perhaps a match later on Smackdown depending on how things work out.
As we mentioned in other articles, the WWE is currently in flux with the recent rash of coronavirus infections, so they’re reportedly redoing a good portion of the show into a tribute to the Undertaker instead. Most of it will depend on if this was prerecorded and how much Undertaker they want to put in. We’re curious to see what they come up with by airtime.
