When this match was first announced, it seemed obvious that Jeff Cobb & Rocky Romero would win. TJP is a great wrestler, but he’s also teaming with a young lion in Karl Fredericks. However, the tone changed when it was revealed that Fredericks has graduated from that spot in the company, with this being his coming out party. With new gear and a new attitude, could Fredericks and TJP beat Romero & Cobb?
Karl Fredericks Needed To Shine Here Today
While it’s not the New Japan Cup against KENTA like originally intended, a tag team match against former champions? That’s a way to do this huge return. It might not be infront of fans, but it’s infront of men crucial to his training could be more important. He previously won the 2019 Young Lions Cup, and showed huge potential the entire year. Now with increased confidence, he is more dangerous that ever. Both Rocky Romero & TJP were in the original L.A Dojo, with Jeff Cobb being the only man without experience training there in this match.
Fantastic Tag Team Action
TJP would start the match across the ring from Rocky Romero, with their rivalary going years back and being well travelled. He would show the athletic advantage, but Romero wouldn’t allow much to connect. It was a complete stand off to start this match, which is what you want to see. Locking up again, Romero would get TJP on the mat, and go after the leg, but a swift headscissors takedown would get TJP right back into the action. After some back and forth a brutal armbreaker would shut down Rocky, and TJP would make the tag to the new and improved Karl Fredericks.
A double shoulder tackle with TJP would come before a cheap shot to Cobb would anger him. Not thirty seconds later, another shot would take Cobb off the apron, with Fredericks seeming to look past the man who was his current opponent. Romero would get the upperhand off a jumping knee strike, and Cobb would be in with some recipts for Fredericks.
They’d trade heavy strikes in the ring, before Cobb would try to throw Fredericks through the turnbuckle. Some tags between Romero and Cobb would keep the advantage in their corner, showing the former Young Lion what the big leagues feel like. Fredericks would hit his signature spinebuster on Romero, and manage the tag into TJP.
TJP Makes The Difference
Getting right back into it with Romero, TJP would fly around the ring and even take Cobb down along the way. He’d try for the overhead kick, but Cobb came in to stop the Fil-Am-Flash in his tracks. TJP would respond by taking both men down with the same move, showing his experience before hitting a double knee gutbuster on Romero for a near fall.
Romero would get back into the match with a rewind kick before going for the forever clotheslines before dropping TJP in the middle of the ring. Cobb would come back in, and counter a tornado DDT with an attempted suplex before getting a knee to the head. TJP would slip away, and let Fredericks deal with the angry Cobb.
Karl Fredericks Wants More Than Just A Tag Match
Undaunted by this, he’d blast away on Cobb with strikes before sending him into a daze with one of the most beautiful dropkicks in all of professional wrestling. A quick european uppercut into an even quicker backbreaker shows just how good Fredericks is. Taking notes from his trainer, Fredericks would punish Cobb with hard forearms in the corner before going for the delayed basement dropkick, but Cobb had enough left to stop this. Cobb would make the tag to the fresh Romero, a double team with Cobb would get the near fall before TJP made the save and removed Cobb from the match.
After a brief exchange with Romero, Karl Fredericks would get a backslide manage the 3 count. He wouldn’t waste time celebrating, and get back into it with Cobb, intent on a future singles match with him for sure.
This was as impressive as a return gets, with Fredericks looking intense and powerful. Do you think Karl Fredericks can beat Jeff Cobb? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
