AEW Dynamite Results: Eddie Kingston vs. Jon Moxley [AEW Championship Match]

Tonight was supposed to be capped off with a huge six man tag match pitting Lance Archer, Brian Cage & Ricky Starks against Jon Moxley, Will Hobbs & Darby Allin , but plans changed. Lance Archer tested positive for COVID-19, and is gone for the next two weeks. However, there was another match AEW could run when needed, that being Eddie Kingston vs. Jon Moxley. Kingston was never eliminated from the Casino Battle Royale, and had a legitimate claim to an AEW Championship match.

With Archer out, why not do that match tonight on Dynamite? Earlier in the night, Kingston called out Moxley for his time in WWE, saying he became soft while Kingston stayed with the fighters. They’d almost come to blows after this, but they were restrained by referees, but this one was going to be a dirty brawl. Kingston didn’t wait 18 years for this chance to blow it.

Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston Put On A Classic

Kingston & Moxley would take a moment to size each other, before getting into some chain wrestling. Things would soon get physical with some hard strikes, the chests already getting red from chops. Kingston would channel Kawada with a heavy enzuguri into a lariat, before throwing Moxley to the outside.

These are two men who are comfortable with a brawl on the outside, the referee isn’t gonna let this one get thrown out. Kingston got the upperhand, looking for a brainbuster on the mat, but Moxley countered with a snap suplex. Getting back in the ring, Kingston would take control and smack Moxley across the face, but Moxley came back with chops until a headbutt dropped him.

Kingston would apply the stretch plum, looking for the submission victory, but would switch to a chinlock as Moxley started to wiggle out, and drop him with a hard chop once he completed the escape. Moxley got a boot to the face, and came back with a big lariat, and a running knee which sent Kingston to the outside. He’d dive out after him, and hit a suplex on the mat.

Moxley goes up top for the elbow drop, missing and settling up the piledriver, but Kingston was too close to the ropes. Kingston took refuge in the corner, and Moxley climbed on the second rope to rain down elbows, before being powerbombed to the mat. Moxley would dodge the spinning backfist, but they’d trade more blows in the middle of the ring.

    The Fighting Spirit Flows

Moxley dodged a boot, only to hit Kingston with a German Suplex, but Kingston got right back up and hit two backdrop drivers. Kingston got a very close two count after this, nearly becoming the AEW Champion. He’d set Moxley in the corner for some chops, starting another brawl.

Kingston would go for the backfist again, with Moxley blocking it and applying the rear naked choke, before moving into the Bulldog choke, and putting Eddie Kingston to sleep for the win. This was a helluva fight, Moxley’s chest was red. Following the match, The Lucha Bros would rush the ring and beat down Jon Moxley, while Kingston argued with the ref about ending this match, as he didn’t tap or say ‘I quit’.

Will Hobbs made the save and planted Fenix with a spinebuster, before being hit with the double superkick. Darby Allin would even the odds with his skateboard, clearing the ring before being run through by Ricky Starks! This was a nasty brawl, with Team Taz & Kingstons crew standing tall.

With this win however, things stay as planned. On the one year anniversary of AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley will defend the AEW Championships against Lance Archer, provided he’s healthy. Kingston will be looking for another shot after this for sure, it’s just a matter of when.

Should Eddie Kingston get another shot at Jon Moxley? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
