Matt Taven hasn’t had a match in nearly a year, when he was taken out of action by Vincent at Final Battle 2019. However, he recently returned to keep that feud going, with some violent brawls taking place, so violent in fact that both Taven & Vincent have been fined.
This is far from over however, and tonight he faces one of Vincent’s allies in Bateman. Bateman is 6-0 against first time opponents, and undefeated in singles action within ROH, while Matt Taven is one of ROH’s most decorated stars, having won the ROH World, Television, Tag Team and Six Man Tag Championships. Will Taven show any ring rust in this match?
Matt Taven Came Ready To Fight
As soon as Taven hit the ring, he’d go right to strikes on Batman, hitting a roundhouse kick and a dropkick. He’d springboard right into a forearm. Bateman would take control briefly before getting caught up in the ropes, hit with a neckbreaker and then Taven launched himself over the ropes into a senton.
Taven pressed this advantage with a running forearm and a rollup, getting a two count. An armdrag and vertical suplex would get some mounted punches, letting his emotions get the best of him and throwing off his game. Bateman quickly took notice of this and nailed a swinging neckbreaker.
A commercial break would come and go, with Taven back in control. He’d go for The Climax, but Bateman countered only to take a Complete Shot and into the crossface he calls ‘The Trendsetter’. Bateman got the ropes, and slipped to the outside.
Taven would dive over the rope, and land awkward on his knee, then blamed Vincent. Back in the ring, Taven went for the frog splash, missed, but got a rollup and stole the win.
Taven Gets Beat Down By The Righteous
After the match, Bateman would take Taven down, and Vincent would hit the ringside area with a microphone. Bateman hit Taven with a tombstone, Vincent rambling on meanwhile. He’d comment on how Taven is desperate for attention in an empty arena, but he’ll never get the approval he’s looking for.
Vincent would slap the taste out of the mouth of Taven, before getting right up in his face. He’d call his legacy nothing more than one of failure, before wanting to throw a dart at Taven, but in comes Mike Bennett, returning to ROH to make the save. He’d show up in a horrible suit, took Bateman out with a superkick before they ran off.
Will Mike Bennett do better now that he’s back in ROH? Who will win the super obvious tag team match? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
