There have been discussions taking place over the past couple of weeks to re-arrange the fight between Derek Chisora and Joseph Parker. The first fight between the two heavyweights was due to take place in October 2019, but it was called off after Parker was bitten by a spider on his leg.
The New Zealander admitted that he needed to reluctantly pull out of the event after he was ill for three weeks as a result of the bite. However, now there seems to be fresh hope that the fight could happen, as Parker has admitted that he would be interested in the showdown if he successfully gets past his upcoming challenge in the form of Junior Fa.
Boxing News: Heavyweight Clash Could Be On
Parker’s manager made the revelation during an interview, as he revealed that there was definitely interest in making the fight against Chisora happen. However, no timeframe has been put on the bout, as Parker first wants to focus on the challenge that is awaiting him in February. His fight in February will be taking place in New Zealand, in front of 12,000 fans in Auckland.
Parker’s manager claimed that his fighter would hold all the cards, and that a fight in New Zealand would make more sense. The location of the fight isn’t likely to have a huge impact on the talks between the camps, as both fighters seem happy to step in the ring together and reignite their feud from a couple of years ago. A date of potentially June was also mentioned, but no official announcement will be made until after Parker’s bout with Fa.
Boxing News: Parker Clashes With Fa
Parker will next be in the ring on the 27th February, as he looks to bring the curtain down on his bitter rivalry with Junior Fa. The WBO Oriental interim title will be on the line, as Parker looks to improve on his current record, which has seen the heavyweight win 27 of the 29 professional fights that he has been involved in. The only two defeats that he has suffered during his career came against Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte.
There is certainly history between Parker and Fa, as the two fighters did square off on four occasions as amateurs. Both fighters won two contests each, and this heavyweight contest will finally settle the score. Fa has won all 19 of his professional bouts, with his most recent win coming against Devin Vargas in November 2019.
