It’s been quite some time since Aja Kong was involved with AEW, but the legend is back. Her 35 years of experience and countless title wins could give her the edge as she faces Rin Kadokura in the first round of the Japanese Bracket for the AEW World Women’s Championship Eliminator tournament.
Kong has a size, power and experience advantage, but Kadokura is just four years into her career and beating Aja Kong alone would be a huge resume booster. They’ve met once before in 2017, when Kadokura was just getting started, Kong winning out in a six woman tag match.
Rin Kadokura Tries Her Best
Calling Aja Kong a legend doesn’t even start to cover it. Kadokura will need to avoid those earth shattering strikes, and outsmart the most experienced woman to ever step into an AEW ring. Kong was met with a dropkick and some elbows as the bell ring, but Kadokura couldn’t send Kong off the ropes. Kadokura kept on the attack before being run through with a lariat.
Kong absorbed more blows, and dropped with one of her own before hitting a big elbow drop, and going for a series of falls. Kadokura was trying to fight back to her feet already, only to be crushed with some chops to the throat and punched between the eyes. A palm strike to the top of the head was followed with a spike piledriver, Kadokura somehow kicking out.
But Aja Kong Is Near Unstoppable
Kadokura managed to hit a big running DDT and a basement dropkick. She’d go to the top rope, hit another dropkick, but Kong had the ropes before Kadokura even started the pinfall. Kadokura tried for the Northern Lights Suplex, and couldn’t get Kong up. A crucifix pin was stopped, and a sunset flip just saw Kong sit on Kadokura.
Kong set up the backdrop driver, and while Kadokura got out, two lariats dropped her. Aja Kong went to the middle rope, and Kadokura threw her down to the mat and hit a swinging DDT and cannonball senton. Kadokura set up a big senton, missed and took the backdrop driver. All Kong had was a diving back elbow, and that closed this one out.
