Right now in AAA, Kenny Omega is the top dog as the AAA Mega Champion. He’s held this belt for 575 Days, and while he’s not consistently able to defend the title in AAA, his defenses have always been must see affairs. It seemed like ex-WWE star Andrade was next in line for a shot after he called out Omega in a video message at the end of Rey de Reyes, but now Laredo Kid is telling a different story.
Laredo Kid Claims He Will Be Next In Line For Kenny Omega
While Andrade called Kenny Omega out for a title shot at Triplemania, Lardeo Kid actually has a better claim at the title after he defeated Abismo Negro Jr., Aero Star, Drago, El Hijo del Vikingo, El Texano Jr., Murder Clown and Myzteziz Jr in the Rey de Reyes match. That gets him a title shot, and he’s using it on Kenny Omega to get another chance to become AAA Mega Champion.
However, fans aren’t too keen on this. We’ve seen Kenny Omega clash with Laredo Kid at Triplemania in 2020, and in trios matches for AEW. The match is no longer as fresh as it once was, and while those encounters were always incredible? Fans want to see something new, and that’s what the match with Andrade would have been.
Incoming Triple Threat For The AAA Mega Championship?
However, there is no reason why Andrade & Laredo Kid can’t both get their chance to take on Kenny Omega. Triple Threat matches exist for a reason, and this is the classic set up for one. It would give fans a fresher match than Omega vs. Laredo one on one, and even make it easier to Omega to give the AAA Mega Championship up.
Omega is a great champion for AAA, but he’s unable to frequently show up at their shows, and could be compared to Brock Lesnar in this situation. He’s an absent champion, while either Laredo Kid or Andrade could be full time champions for the brand. A triple threat match allows Omega to lose without getting pinned, a smart move for both Omega and AAA.
