The Young Bucks faced their hardest challenge yet at Double or Nothing when they defended the AEW World Tag Team Championships against Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston. They used their stronger tag team chemistry and big match tag team experience to overcome the brawlers, but there’s no rest for the wicked. Tonight, they face off with PAC & Penta of Death Triangle, but the titles aren’t on the line.
Earlier in the night, The Young Bucks took out Rey Fenix backstage, and brought Brandon Cutler, The Good Brothers & Don Callis into their corner tonight. Bucks have all the edge in this one, but Frankie Kazarian attacked and led Good Brothers away. PAC & Penta nailed some running boots to drop the distracted Bucks, before diving to the outside.
PAC & Penta Look Great In Tag Team Debut
The Young Bucks fought back and looked for powerbombs on the apron, but were countered. PAC & Matt Jackson would finally get into the ring and start this one properly. Matt would be cornered by PAC, with Penta coming in and rolling him up for a pin requiring a save from Nick to stop a quick loss.
Penta nailed a superkick as Nick entered the ring, with him stumbling right into Matt who took a superkick from Penta. PAC tagged in and hit a quick cutter, before a standing Shooting Star Press for a two count. The Bucks led PAC outside, where Brandon Cutler was used as a human shield before a cheap kick landed.
PAC was held in place as Matt Jackson slowly ran around the ring for a lariat, before getting him back in the ring. Matt was turned inside out with a lariat, but Nick took away the tag option. PAC was cut down with a spear, and Bucks would look to isolate him, but a German Suplex to Nick allowed a tag to Penta.
The Young Bucks Get Help From Brandon Cutler
Penta nailed some quick Sling Blades on both men, before a Backstabber/Senton combo. He’d nail the Pumphandle Driver for a two count, before PAC landed a series of kicks and pop up Liger Bomb for another. Penta would set up The Fear Factor but Nick slipped out before being hit with a destroyer.
Nick stumbled into the corner and tagged in Matt, who vaulted over the ropes into a destroyer of his own on Penta. The referee was knocked down, and Penta would be unmasked by Nick, but after seeing the same happen to Fenix weeks ago had a second underneath.
Penta would hit a low blow and The Fear Factor, before PAC hit the Black Arrow. Matt made the last minute save, and when PAC went back up to the top rope, Brandon Cutler got a cheap shot in and allowed The Young Bucks to get a pin on PAC.
The Young Bucks are operating on a high level right now, and matches like this have become standard. They are able to blend in some fantastic action with character work that makes them hateable. Little touches like Cutler being apprehensive of helping them cheat, Frankie Kazirian seeking revenge for the breakup of SCU and Penta having a second match really made this one special. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
