A last minute addition to tonight’s card, but a welcome one. Former IWGP United States Champion Juice Robinson will be taking on BULLET CLUB’s young gun in Hikuleo. Hikuleo recently pushed Lance Archer to his limits in a big match on Dynamite, and wants more. He called for competition on NJPW Strong, and Robinson stepped up for his first NJPW match since the New Japan Cup to face him. Robinson has stayed busy in Impact Wrestling however, and is expected at future Strong tapings.
Juice Robinson Shows How Much Fight He Has
There was a big size edge for Hikuleo in this match, but it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but rather the size of the fight in the dog. As previously proven, Robinson is a fighter. He’d be shoved into the corner by Hikuleo, but keep coming back. A headlock attempt was countered, but Robinson was unable to take him down. He’d have to walk up the corner pad and use the downward momentum to complete this elementary move, before being shoved off soon after.
Robinson would rush in with some shoulder tackles, before pummeling away at Hikuleo, only to be dropped with a backdrop. He’d get back into the fight and trip Hikuelo over the top rope before hitting the vaulting body press and some mounted punches. However, Hikuleo would launch him off and maintain control by dropping him on the barricade.
He’d reset the count and keep the beating coming, before taking Robinson into the ring for a delayed vertical suplex. A waist lock was applied, and Robinson fought out with hard elbow strikes before falling to a powerslam which saw Hikuleo move faster than anyone could have predicted. Robinson would find his way to the top rope, and crash and burn after Hikuleo disturbed the ropes.
Hikeulo looked for some mounted punches, but took a falling powerbomb after Robinson slipped free. A cannonball in the corner would follow, and Robinson got the crowd into this match with some Texas Jabs, ending with the Left Hand of God and a big lariat. Hikuleo was right back up and showed him what a real lariat looked like. However, Robinson countered a driver into a pinfall, and somehow got the three. After the bell, Hikuleo hit a chokeslam, to get the last laugh,
Robinson did his absolute best to make Hikuleo look like an absolute monster here, bumping all over the venue and working hard to take him down in the ring. It was a fairly basic match, and failed to excite the crowd much. Match Rating: 2/5 (**)
