In recent years, The Hell in a Cell has been an annual match WWE pulls out for the PPV of the same name. This strayed from the purpose of the match being something that can change careers and end blood feuds – but tonight it returns to its main purpose. Edge & Seth Rollins are ready to rip each other’s throats out, and Hell in a Cell will be their battleground to truly settle their differences.
The Time For Talk Is Over
Entering just his second Hell in a Cell match ever, Edge was ready to get revenge on Rollins for all the taunting and the recent home invasion. He’d drive Rollins right into the corner for some punches, which was enough to get a ‘This is Awesome’ chant going. Rollins fired back with a kick to the gut, before being flapjacked onto the top rope and being hit with a big boot. Edge would head outside, baiting Rollins to go for the suicide dive and hitting the cell instead.
Some steel chairs would be grabbed, and Edge nailed the Implant DDT to keep Rollins down – but would only get a two count. Edge broke a chair, and looked to use the metal pole to apply a crossface. Rollins blocked, and was almost able to take one of Edge’s eyes out before being kicked off. Taking this outside, Rollins would throw Edge into the cage, but Edge slipped into the ring before hitting a baseball slide to send Rollins into the steel.
Back in the ring, Edge hit a spear into the corner, taking the wind out of Rollins and getting himself a chance to breathe. He perhaps took a bit too long, as Rollins grabbed a steel chair and beat down Edge with some ruthless aggression. Rollins set up a conchairto, but Edge would grab a crossface instead. Crawling forward, Rollins didn’t want the ropes, but the chair piece which he jabbed into the eye of Edge. Rollins threw a chair to Edge, hitting a rolling elbow and nailing a frog splash off the top rope for a two count.
What Will It Take To End This Match?
The next weapon brought into the match would be a table, and Rollins wanted to powerbomb Edge from the ring and through the table. Edge slipped out, only to be nailed with The Killswitch for a two count. Rollins took his eyes off Edge for a second too long, and was sent flying off the top rope, off the cell and through the table.
Not done with Rollins yet, Edge would push the steel steps into the ring. Edge would drop Rollins’ neck first with the Edgeomatic on the steps, before grabbing a steel chair. Going up top, he’d take the steel chair and hit a diving elbow drop, crushing Rollins in a steel sandwich – and only getting a two count. Rollins was able to get a pedigree on Edge, but even that would only get a two count.
The Stomp was countered, and Edge nailed a bucklebomb and spear, but that was still somehow not enough! Edge would up the stakes by grabbing a ladder, and ram it into the face of Rollins. Rollins threw Edge into the ladder after it was set up, and would set up a table in the ring. Edge was set up on the table, and Rollins climbed up – only for Edge to meet him. Rollins hit the sunset bomb through the table, and that wouldn’t end it either.
Edge would take a superkick, and Rollins tied a chain around his foot. A normal stomp had Edge on a stretcher, this could put him in a coffin. First he’d be superkicked, then put onto the chair. Edge was seemingly out, but he was playing possum and would turn the chair up for a modified low blow. Rollins was out in crossface, before Edge let him go for a Curb Stomp – finally ending this war.
Given the stakes of the match, and with this being the rubber match of their feud – this one was always going to be a strong match. Edge & Seth Rollins went to war here, with a good amount of cell usage to justify pulling out the cage for this match. As far as PG Hell in a Cell matches go, this is a decent one. Match Rating: 4.25/5 (**** 1/4)
