It’s time for the World Title Eliminator Tournament to get started, but this one is more about Powerhouse Hobbs proving a point. The last time he faced Orange Cassidy – he lost in 13 seconds. That is embarrassing for anyone, but it gives Hobbs a chance to show just how much he’s grown since joining Team Taz. Hobbs won’t be beat so easily this time around.
Powerhouse Hobbs Makes It Longer Than Last Time
They’d make it past the 13 second mark, with Hobbs nailing the first blow with a huge Spinebuster to get the near fall. Matt Hardy was in the crowd hoping that was it, and Hobbs was showing he is not the same man. On the outside, he’d bend Cassidy around the corner post, while Taz & Ricky Starks were totally unbiased on commentary towards their man.
Hobbs would get another near fall with a sidewalk slam, and was able to block a Tornado DDT with ease. Cassidy was sent off the ropes, and was run down with a lariat. HOOK was at ringside looking jacked, and making sure CM Punk stayed far away out of fear. Cassidy would be crafty and tried some quick pinfall attempts, only to be dropped with a headbutt.
Never Take Your Eyes Off Orange Cassidy
On commentary, Starks & Chris Jericho had a bit of tension, but nothing like the tension Hobbs put on the back of Cassidy with a modified single leg crab. Hobbs couldn’t maintain the hold, but was still in control. Cassidy was able to come off the top rope, but was caught and put into a Torture Rack.
Hobbs took some elbows to the face, before Cassidy looked for a DDT, but settled for a small package for the two count. Cassidy looked for Orange Punch, but would miss and was crushed into corner with some splashes. The referee would ask for a clean break, and Hobbs would haul him off to another corner. HOOK would try to be the voice of reason, and Cassidy took advantage and used the Mouse Trap to get the win.
We’d see Orange Cassidy get desperate and serious after Hobbs flaunted his power, but won due to his crafty nature. Match Rating: 2.25/5 (** 1/4)
