Lately we have seen some professional wrestlers making their way away from Twitter. In AEW Cody Rhodes would deactivate his Twitter before handing it off to the AEW Community Outreach team, and now another AEW Twitter account has gone down. This time it’s Tay Conti, who was caught in the middle of a rumor-filled mess.
Tay Conti Was Trending For All The Wrong Reasons
Yesterday, we got the news that Sammy Guevara had split with his partner, Pam. They had gotten engaged on an episode of AEW Dynamite, before splitting up just months later. This has come with the side effect of fans assuming that this was due to Guevara & Conti having gotten together.
This situation had her name trending all day, as fans would begin to harass Conti about this over Twitter, and she would proceed to delete her account to stop this in its tracks. Abuse of social media’s connection between fans and professional wrestlers have become common, especially when rumors like this spiral out of control at a rapid pace.
Conti hasn’t deleted her Instagram account however, as that is a source of income due to modelling contracts and sponsorships. Twitter was doing nothing for her, just giving an avenue for angry fans to yell at her among other fan interactions.
Fuego Del Sol Offers Some Wise Words
During the midst of all this, we’d hear some wise words from the close friend of Sammy Guevara in Fuego Del Sol.
“Wrestlers may choose to share and give you glimpses into their personal lives at times but you never really know what someone is going through. Please never assume and respect people’s privacy. We may allow you to read a page or two but that doesn’t mean you know our whole story.”
It’s important to remember this. Everyone on social media is like this, with no one showing every aspect of their lives. We’re all our own unreliable narrators on social media. It doesn’t matter if you have 10 followers or several million, no one wants to give the full story.
