Three new photographs of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, have been released by Kensington Palace to mark her 40th birthday on January 9, 2022. The pictures were taken by the Italian photographer, Paolo Roversi, and they will go on tour around Britain this year before they will be added to the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery, of which Kate is the patron.
Kate Middleton Channels Another Member Of The Royal Family
The glamorous images of Kate Middleton, which were taken late last year in Kew Gardens, feature the Duchess of Cambridge wearing beautiful Alexander McQueen dresses and jewels that she inherited from her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana and borrowed from her grandmother-in-law Queen Elizabeth.
Glamorous Portraits Of Kate Middleton Released As She Turns 40
The images are so beautiful, but one stands out because it is reminiscent of another member of the royal family: Princess Margaret. In a black and white picture, Kate is wearing an off-the-shoulder gown with bow accents, and it looks so much like a portrait of the Queen’s late sister, Princess Margaret.
The portrait was taken by Cecil Beaton in honor of late Princess Margaret’s 19th birthday in 1949. The picture also shows princess Margaret is wearing an ethereal, cream-colored off-the-shoulder gown, though hers is accessorized with a five-strand pearl choker, while Kate did not wear any necklace. She chose to make a statement with her earrings, which were once worn by Princess Diana.
The glamorous portraits of The Duchess will be added to the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery. However, ahead of the Gallery’s re-opening in 2023, they will be part of Coming Home, which the Kensington Palace describes as “a nationwide initiative which sees portraits of well-known individuals being sent to locations which they are closely associated with.”
They will also displayed in Berkshire, St Andrews, and Anglesey –these places are described as “a special meaning to Her Royal Highness.” More details on when and where Kate’s portraits will be displayed will be announced “in due course.”
Kate Middleton joined the royal family in 2011 when she and Prince William, Queen Elizabeth’s grandson and the second in line to the throne, tied the knot in a lavish ceremony said to have been watched by hundreds of millions throughout the world.
