Photographer, Paolo Roversi Shared How He Made Kate Middleton Dance
During a chat with Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera, Paolo Roversi shared that he persuaded Kate to dance an “accelerated waltz mixed with a pinch of rock ‘n roll” after the Duchess wore an organza Alexander McQueen gown that reminded him of a “classical ballerina”.

He revealed that they first met for tea and biscuits at Kensington Palace in November and Kate was apprehensive about the photoshoot at first. The photographer who has worked with celebrity models like Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, revealed that: “But at first the Duchess was apprehensive.
Every day she is machine-gunned by photographers but not used to posing; knowing my photos with the models she was a bit fearful in facing a real session, which then required about four hours of work. But once she started it would be very easy, I reassured her.”
Paolo and The Duchess drew inspiration from 19th century photography, which was the focus of her undergraduate thesis when she was at the University of St Andrews. One of Kate’s pictures shows her smiling directly at the camera as she rocked a one-shouldered red gown by wedding dress designer, Alexander McQueen.
The Duchess is also shown in two black and white photographs. One of them is shot in profile, reminiscent of royal portraits taken by Cecil Beaton, and the other one a close-up photo showing the Duchess beaming at the lens. Paolo said, “In the end I wanted to take pictures in motion, so with that wonderful wide skirt I made her dance in front of my lens, a kind of accelerated waltz mixed with a pinch of rock ‘n roll,” Paolo said.
He also shared that in December, the pictures were whittled down to 70 from a selection of 250, and then went on to share how he captured Kate Middleton in natural light, with “little makeup, no hairstyle, simple earrings, a ring…The focal point of Kate’s face is her gaze and smile”.
