AEW Dark begins, as usual, with Tony Schiavone running down the card. Haven’t seen much of his typical co-host Dasha Gonzalez lately but they also don’t seem to want to replace her so I assume she’ll be back. Out comes Diamante for the first match here, as she faces Kris Statlander. It’s funny how her twitter handle is still DiamanteLAX. I think the same was true for Santana and Ortiz when they first got to AEW too though it’s been changed since then. Before the match, Statlander bopes Bryce Remsburg which is the one-to-one signal for him to ring the bell, it seems.
Diamante vs. Kris Statlander
As the match starts, Kris also wants a boop for Diamante. Diamante rejects this, smacks her hand away. Kris is not happy with that, chop to the chest takes her down. She crawls after her, Diamante crawls backwards in fear and tries to beg off, Kris smooshes against her in the corner. Whips her to the ropes, clothesline takes her down. Gets her down with an arm stretch, licks Diamante’s thumbs and forces her to give herself a wet willy. Diamante struggles out, hits the ropes but is taken down with a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker, cover but Kris just kinda gives up on it.
Diamante sends a few shots but to to little effect, Kris with a Pele Kick! Charging back elbow, and a knee to the face sends her to the floor! Statlander pursues her outside, runs around the ring to charge her. Ducks a clothesline, Military Press sends her right onto the apron! She howls “I’m the galaxy’s greatest” before rolling inside. Hooks her legs and deadlifts her up for a Powerbomb! Diamante turns this into a Code Red though for a nearfall! Too worn out for a cover though. Hits the ropes, tries for a Wheelbarrow Facebuster but Statlander just holds onto her, showing off her strength! Devastating German Suplex, roundhouse kick to the head! Big Bang Theory nailed for the win.
Winner: Kris Statlander
That was good stuff! Better match than I expected actually, and Statlander booked very powerfully. The single Code Red was basically the entirety of Diamante’s offense, a very dominant win for the alien woman. It’s a nice thing to see, she’s coming along very well. Keeps working like that and getting over like she has, Statlander will probably be a champion before too long.
