AEW Revolution continues and now it’s finally time… Cody will finally get his hands on MJF. Cody backstage has Brandi and Arn as his entourage on the way to the stage. Downstait performing “Kingdom” live for Cody’s entrance. And in fact he has his entire entourage actually, save for Pharaoh who is instead repped on his shirt. Cody also has a new tattoo on his neck. As the music fades, the crowd rises for a big chant of Cody’s name.
Cody vs. MJF
The bell finally rings, MJF ducks a clothesline, blocks a kick, bails from the ring! Big heat. “F*ck him up Cody, f*ck him up”! Max slowly enters the ring, Cody quickly takes it to him, tries for a series of big moves, all blocked, Max slips out of a Springboard Cutter and rolls from the ring. Out into the crowd just to flip them off! “Coward” chant! Arn gets Cody to stay in the ring. Max throws a cup of beer at a fan before leaping to ringside. Rolls in and back out of the ring to break the ten count. Boos. Cody waiting patiently. Max rolls into the ring, Cody takes it to him! Dustin Uppercut, Cody Cutter, MJF kicks out at 1!
Max rolls out of the ring, to the rampway. Cody mindfully rubs his scar as he looks towards the ramp. He leaves the ring, goes all the way up the ramp and into the tunnel! He gets as big a head of steam as he can rushing all the way down the ramp for a crazy flying clothesline taking Max into the ring for a 2 count! MJF reverses a whip into the corner, Cody blocks a shoulder thrust for a sunset flip for 2! Cody blocks a kick, flips Max but he lands on his feet, poke to the eye! Stomp to the injured foot! Hits the ropes, Cody hoists him onto his shoulders, lengthy spin… and then a second one leading into the Alabama Slam!
Cody takes a moment to fix his boot before covering, only to pull him from the mat! Punches and stomps. Kick to the face. Wardlow pulls Max to the floor to stop the assault. Brandi walks around… splashes beer into the face of Wardlow! Wardlow chases Brandi around ringside only to get taken out with a suicide dive from Cody! Stomps him to the floor! Cody checks the injured toe again, before throwing MJF into the ring.
Max with a shoulder breaker across the rope… he staggers on the floor, Wardlow surprises him, drives his shoulder into the post behind the ref’s back!
Thrown back into the ring, Maxwell slams him shoulder first in the corner! Pumphandle Powerbomb for a nearfall! Arm drag lands Cody into the corner, brutal! Pulls him out for a cover, nearfall! A quiet “MJF” chant leads into a “SUCKS” response. Max stomping on the now bum arm. Hits the ropes… mocking strut, before he hooks in the double wrist lock. Cody reaching for the ropes but he stops him with a trip, cover for 2. “Let’s Go Cody” duels with a much more quiet “MJF” chant, Cody with a knuckle to the nose, drives him into the corner to break the hold!
He wants the hammer throw but MJF holds on, Cody sells the arm, Max with a diving double stomp off the middle rope to the singled out arm! Salt Of The Earthbar! Hooks both arms, Cody wants the foot on the rope but Max hooks it too… Cody bites the bottom rope to force the break! MJF grabs the boot of Cody’s bad foot, and undoes the straps, pulling the boot right off! Just puts the boot to the now barely protected foot! Pulls it up and bites on the broken toe! “You Sick F*ck” chant rings out! Max takes him up top, pursues, Cody slips beneath him, sends him facefirst into the pad!
Again, he puts Max up on the top rope. Pursues, Inverted Superplex brings them both down hard! Sends Max to the apron, Disaster Kick with the barefoot sends him to the floor! Wardlow up on the apron to distract Cody who gets in his face! Arn Anderson grabs a chair! Threatening Wardlow now! Ref gets them both to seperate though. Cody pulls MJF up… and his face is covered in blood now! Cody slams him facefirst into the steps, he’s dripping blood now! Throws him into the ring, against the corner, Ten Punches commence! MJF staggers out…. charges right into a Snap Powerslam!
Elbow to the back of the head, does a Legend Killer pose before going for the Rope-Hung DDT! MJF reverses it, Leaping Piledriver! Max covers, Wardlow grabs the legs… the ref sees it though! Rips the feet to the mat to break up the pin. Brandi comes off the apron with a crossbody to Wardlow but he catches her out of the air! Cody goes down to demand he let her down.
Charges for a big boot, Wardlow evades and Cody kicks Arn Anderson!
Anderson’s down as the commentators remind us that Anderson was retired with a neck injury. Cody is stunned, rolls into the ring but is still concerned… MJF gets him with a low blow! Rolls him up, ref comes back in the ring for a nearfall! Crazy suplex sends both men over the top rope and to the floor! They barely beat the count together, slipping in at 9! The two of them are wobbly as they fight to their feet. Wicked punch from Cody! Exchange of shots! Cody wins out with a combination, Max stops him with a kick… but a Dusty Flurry commences! He rolls the arm up for a Bionic Elbow… but Max just falls right to the mat before he takes it. “Dusty” chant!
Cody pulls Max up… he surprises him with a Double-Cross out of nowhere! NEARFALL! MJF takes off Cody’s weight belt! Wants to whip Cody but the ref grabs it, pulls it away from him. As the ref deals with this, Cody gets him with a low blow! VERTIBREAKER! NEARFALL! I think that’s the first time he’s done that one in AEW! Cody grabs the weight belt now and cracks him across the back with it! Ref wants to pull it away… but he just decides to let him go, he gets another big shot in and then throws it to the crowd to a huge ovation! MJF cowers in the corner now.
Crawls to Cody… wraps arms around his ankle as he starts to sob, pleading for forgiveness. Cody doesn’t buy a word of it as he fights to his feet and gives him a huge. Says “I’m sorry” before spitting in his face. Cody gets him with a Cross-Rhodes! Pulls him right up without even covering him and there’s a second one! On a third, MJF with a knee lift to block… spins and punches him with the Dynamite Diamond Ring on his hand, falls on him for the cover and that is that!
Winner: MJF
Yep. Max is gonna be champ by the end of the year. He was already despised and this one is just gonna make it that much bigger. Massive standing ovation and chant of “Cody” as he fights to his feet and leaves the ring.
