Former NWA World Champion, Blue Demon Jr., will have his own Disney Channel show. The Mexican star will act as himself; posing as a wrestler, but in reality, being a superhero.

Written/executive produced by Pokémon Detective Pikachu writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, Ultra Violet & Blue Demon centers on 13-year-old Violet, who is stunned when a magical luchador mask “chooses” her to be the successor to her uncle, the famed luchador Blue Demon Jr. (Demon Jr., playing a version of himself) who is actually a secret superhero. Violet will now begin her own secret superhero training, all while having to navigate the universal ups and downs of coming-of-age while keeping her new alter-ego a secret.
Telediario Mexico interviewed some of the creators of the show. In the interview, they explained the difficulty of doing a show of a Mexican wrestler, whose mask has so much history:
He mentions that when someone sees the Blue Demon Jr. mask they automatically think of Mexico and this happens from here to Europe and Japan; The luchador will star in the series, he is a producer and, in addition, he has told many things about his day to day to the writers, which has inspired the script.
Villamar considers that the greatest challenge is to explain the meaning of the mask well, because although it is known, in the United States not everyone understands the culture behind it; on the other hand, it is best to accompany the fighter on this path to fulfill a dream, which is to take his image on an international scale, something that thanks his father, the iconic original fighter.
The main point of the series is to have a girl’s perspective of wrestling. In Mexico, the masks and the lights tend to maximize the figure of men. But, with the following series, the producers hope to inspire girls and show them that they too can be stars.
Dan Carrillo Levy, one of the directors, said the following about this aspect:
Blue Demon has daughters, for me, it was always very interesting to see how she lived with them. We have this idea of the wrestler as a male figure, despite the fact that there are very good wrestlers. If you go to the El Santo and Blue Demon movies, they were always men; So, how do you bring it to a new era and something familiar with Disney, we did it with Violet, it was very important to have a girl, who is also Latino and small, with this responsibility to face villains but also at school and in a time of increase…
