Another episode of AEW Dark is being uploaded to YouTube as we speak, the latest show from All Elite Wrestling. Former AEW Women’s World Champion Riho attempts to bounce back tonight in a battle against Superbad Penelope Ford. One can only assume Kip Sabian will be involved. I don’t mean to bum anyone out but I do feel compelled to state a fact; this may well be the last new regular wrestling event we see for a little while. That is to say, a wrestling event with fans… this show was taped last Wednesday and things were quite a bit different back then to say the least. Hopefully normalcy will be restored soon and this will all be a memory before long. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and you’ll still be getting recaps, results and previews of all the shows in the coming weeks.
Penelope Ford vs. Riho
So this is Riho’s first singles match in AEW since losing the AEW Women’s World Championship to Nyla Rose. She was last seen teaming up with Yuka Sakazaki against Britt Baker and her opponent tonight, Penelope Ford, in a special Dark match that was filmed before Revolution. These two have quietly been building a feud for a while. Back on the JeriCruise, the two of them were both part of an intergender tag team match, the first of it’s kind in AEW. Kenny Omega and Riho defeated Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford on that night.
That means they’ve traded victories in tag matches, basically. Now, the two women finally face off in a singles match. I’m personally quite looking forward to seeing this one. Riho has been pretty easily the MVP of the women’s division thus far, putting on all the best matches, her bouts against Nyla Rose in particular being real showstealers. Penelope Ford is a competitor that’s perhaps been overlooked by many, I’ve seen evidence enough to think she’s actually quite underrated. There was some backstage ambiguity early on as to how herself, Kip Sabian and her ex Joey Janela would be presented and that perhaps affected their booking over the past few months. But with that angle now concluded, Ford may well get a chance to shine yet.
She certainly a great chance to show out in this one, and I’m hoping it’s a real good one, but Ford’s for sure the underdog. Riho over.
