The Premier League title race looks to have stepped up a gear over the past weekend, as Manchester City moved further clear of the chasing pack. Manchester United could only manage a draw on the road against Arsenal, which meant that the Red Devils have now gone two without a win in the Premier League.
Like an NBA season, the fixtures are coming quicker than ever in the top-flight, which means that momentum is everything. One of the sides that certainly look to be coming into their own as the season reaches a vital stage is Liverpool.
Soccer News: Liverpool Back To Their Best
Make no mistake about it, Liverpool would have known going into their game against West Ham United that they would have needed to be at their very best to wrap up all three points at the London Stadium. The Hammers had won all of their previous four fixtures before the arrival of Liverpool, which made Jurgen Klopp’s sides performance even more impressive.
The Reds never looked in danger of dropping points in the capital, as they were excellent from start to finish. Mohamed Salah has typically been the player to inflict pain on the Hammers, and that was once again the case on Sunday afternoon, as the Egyptian scored two of the goals in a 3-1 success. Georgino Wjnaldum wrapped up the win with six minutes remaining for the Reds, as they moved to within four points of Manchester City, who they play next weekend. Craig Dawson scored the late consolation for the home side.
Soccer News: Spurs Lose More Ground On Top Four
Jose Mourinho would have been fuming with his Spurs side, as they were massively underwhelming in the late game on Sunday evening. Tottenham failed to stretch Brighton & Hove Albion as they fell to a second successive defeat. Brighton were rewarded for their excellent performance with a first home win of the season, as Leandro Trossard scored the only goal of the game.
The win for Brighton has moved them seven clear of the drop zone, while defeat for Spurs means that they are falling below the standard that is required of a team hoping to compete for a Champions League position. The one positive for them would have been the fact that the lead that Leicester City hold wasn’t greater, as the Foxes were well-beaten by Leeds United at the King Power earlier in the day. Elsewhere on Sunday, Chelsea also picked up a first win under Thomas Tuchel, as they beat Burnley 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
