Disney fans absolutely enjoyed Zootopia when it came out in 2016, and now the entertainment company is set to bless their fans with a sequel to the animated movie! CEO Bob Igerconfirmed on February 8, 2013 that Zootopia 2 “is in the works.” The CEO also shared that the company had plans for Toy Story 5 and Frozen 3. “We’ll have more to share about these productions soon,” he said at Disney’s Q1 earnings call. “But this is a great example of how we’re leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises.” Jared Bush, the screenwriter also confirmed via Twitter that he’s working on the sequel.
Zootopia: The Story
Zootopia is a story about a city where animals live like humans. Rabbit, Judy Hoops becomes a rookie police officer, who teamed up with red fox con artist, Nick Wilde, to uncover a mysterious case. The Disney animation grossed over $1 billion worldwide. It also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
What do we know about ‘Zootopia 2’?
Cast member, Ginnifer Goodwin, who played Judy, shared with CinemaBlend that she wants to see a role reversal between Judy and Nick in Zootopia 2. She said, “I would like to see Nick have to be the one to convince Judy that the world is worth fighting for.” Jason Bateman, who voices Nick, also told the outlet about his vision for the animated movie. “The two of us [Nick and Judy]. kicking ass out there. Cleaning up the streets. We’re a couple of new cops out there. So, bad guys, be warned,” he said.
The sequel could also share more about the stories explored in Zootopia+, the 2022 spin-off anthology series that was released on Disney+. Zootopia+ focused on a different story with characters from Zootopia. The first episode focused on Judy’s parents, Bonnie and Stu.Casting for Zootopia 2 has not been announce, but Ginnifer shared that she’s returning as Judy on Instagram.
Jason Bateman is also expected to feature in the sequel. Other casts from Zootopia, who will most likely feature, include Idris Elba as Chief Bogo, Jenny Slate as Dawn Bellwether, Nate Torrence as Benjamin Clawhauser, Bonnie Hunt as Bonnie Hoops, Tommy Chong as Tax, J.K. Simmons as Mayor Lionheart, Octavia Spencer as Mrs. Otterton, Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton, and Shakira as Gazelle.
‘Zootopia’ Release Date
Disney is yet to announce a release date yet for Zootopia 2. The film will probably come out in the theatre in 2024 or 2025.
