At Worlds Collide, we saw ‘The Irish Ace’ Jordan Devlin claim his first championship in WWE when he won the Fatal Four Way for the NXT Crusierweight Championship. He defeated previous champion Angel Garza, as well as Isiah ‘Swerve’ Scott, and Travis Banks. Devlin has been a fan favorite on NXT UK since his signing to the brand, due to him arguably being the best all around talent on the brand. He has the skills, the good looks, the promo ability, and most importantly the confidence. These characteristics have caught the eye of Shawn Michaels, who has been pushing hard for Devlin to be a major star in not just NXT UK, but all of WWE.
Shawn Micheals On Jordan Devlin
“One guy who I didn’t know, or hadn’t seen was Jordan Devlin,” was what Michaels told The Daily Star during an international media call during January of last year. “He was good when he came in, but now he is really starting to feel it. Jordan is oozing confidence. And I hate to pinpoint one person, but I have seen him grow exponentially. He is a real talented kid, and his ceiling is pretty darn high.”
Putting The Belt On All Brands
The WWE Crusierweight division has been a mess since it’s inception. The belt was initially placed on Monday Night RAW, where it failed to really interest fans. It was then moved to 205 Live, which was a show entirely dedicated to the divison, which while containing absolutely fantastic wrestling, isn’t exactly the most watched show. The belt is commonly defended on pre-shows, which hasn’t helped the situation.
It was recently moved to NXT, where it is a natural fit with the work-rate heavy shows. The matches between Lio Rush & Angel Garza have defined a new era for the division, and one Devlin hopes to bring to all brands. He is being advertised for both NXT & 205 Live this week, but there have been talks about having him become a prominent figure on RAW & Smackdown as well. The TV time will hopefully finally present the championship as a major prize in WWE, and maybe we can see it defended on the main card of an upcoming PPV.
