Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here with a preview of tonight’s WWE NXT! A war has begun between NXT and the main roster, and WarGames is on the horizon! Let’s look at what we have in store for tonight, which may well end up being a key battle in the Wednesday Night Wars!
Shayna Baszler vs. Dakota Kai (Non-title)
An old feud re-ignited! Dakota Kai looks to prove her worth on Rhea Ripley’s WarGames team and shut up Shayna Baszler once and for all when she squares off with the NXT Women’s Champion. She’ll also look to show that the days of her being intimidated by Shayna’s bullying tactics are far behind her.
Should be an interesting match, though with all the combustible elements surrounding it, there’s basically no chance it stays a straight one-on-one. The odds of a non-finish are high here, but that’s just fine.
Pete Dunne vs. Damian Priest
A rematch from a main event a few weeks ago, I’m expecting to see a fierce battle between the two of them tonight. Dunne’s ferocity does a lot to make up for the size differential, but Priest’s power advantage is undeniable. Will this be the blow-off or just a new chapter in this budding feud? Odds are good we’ll be able to tell.
A second WarGames match is on the horizon
Whilst the first-ever women’s WarGames match has already been announced, it’s been made pretty clear that a second one is in the works for the night as well. Tommaso Ciampa hinted at wanting to go to war with the Undisputed Era and there’s no real ambiguity as to what that implies. TUE has no shortage of enemies, especially with Finn Balor in the equation.
The match may well be confirmed tonight. The likes of Johnny Gargano, if he’s healthy, as well as Keith Lee, Donovan Dijakovic and Matt Riddle would all make for fitting partners on a formidable team. I’d love to add Velveteen Dream to the list of candidates but it seems the purported injury he has is a legit one, which would keep him out of action until about the start of 2020.
The hype for a bout like that would be immense, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We’ll see where the chips lie tonight.
Will Raw and SmackDown retaliate for NXT’s invasion?
While nothing has been announced or really even too heavily hinted at, we’re in the midst of a brand war as well. After the past week, it’s thought that there are a lot more eyes on NXT than usual. Will we see the likes of Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns ect. make an invasion of their own? Just how would the black and gold brand fare on it’s own turf?
Time will only tell what’s in store. It should be another eventful Wednesday night in wrestling, to say the very least. Will this be the week NXT overtakes AEW in the ratings? I could certainly see the gap starting to close, if nothing else…
