After leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling earlier this year, Lance Archer was one of the hottest free agents on the market. Having just come off a major run singles run, which saw Archer capture the IWGP United States Championship, his stock was at an all time high. Because of this, he was likely to have gotten offered from companies like Impact Wrestling, Major League Wrestling, and Ring Of Honor. Combine those offers with NJPW likely trying to keep him on board, and his options remained very open. Despite all this, he has chosen a new home and it is in All Elite Wrestling.
Lance Archer Will Bring Unmatched Physicality To All Elite Wrestling
At 6’8″ and 265lbs, Archer is an imposing figure. Combine that size with uncanny agility for a man his size, and a killer instinct and you have a threat to anyone on your hands. His catchphrase in NJPW was ‘Everybody dies’, and that could be the future of the AEW roster. He will have an easy target on arrival as well. His final match in NJPW was a Texas Deathmatch with Jon Moxley, who is of course a top star in AEW. They brought some serious violence to the Tokyo Dome, and that will likely continue should they meet up again in the AEW locker room.
Alongside men like Wardlow, Luchasarus, Andy Williams and Jake Hagar, AEW has done a great job to gather some of the best big men on the free agent market today. Should Brian Cage, Jeff Cobb, and Brodie Lee join the fold later this year, we will be set to see some incredibly hard hitting matches to balance out the faster pace often seen on AEW programming.
Will Archer Be A Top Star?
With him hitting his singles stride recently in NJPW, and being a fairly hyped up signing, we shouldn’t be surprised if he enters the company and makes a run right for the AEW Championship. He would make a strong first opponent for Jon Moxley should he become champion. He would also be able to give the Inner Circle a surprise edge to help their odds of victory against Moxley, which would just add to the factions power. Whatever the plans for Archer are, the AEW roster just better be prepared.
