At AEW Revolution, we saw the official debut of Colt Cabana for All Elite Wrestling. The 20 year pro from Chicago has since started to work his way into a 3-0 winning streak, dropping John Silver of the Dark Order, Peter Avalon and now Brandon Cutler. These are hardly the biggest names in AEW, but Colt has only started. Could this unassuming comedy expert work his way all the way to AEW Champion Jon Moxley?
It Takes A Top Wrestler To Be A Comedy Wrestler
The scary thing about Colt Cabana is how easily he can switch from comedy genius to technical wizard. In his 20 years in the ring, Cabana has become a grappler that could even rival Zack Sabre Jr. He took a ton of influence from World Of Sport, giving him more ways to tie you into a knot than you can imagine. Because of this, you can’t under estimate him due to his goofy nature. Much like fans saw with Orange Cassidy when he took PAC to the limit at AEW Revolution, comedy wrestlers when they get serious are a handful. We will see this from Colt Cabana sometime in the future.
Colt Cabana Is A Two Time NWA Heavyweight Champion
It takes a great wrestler to hold the Ten Pounds of Gold. While he seems to have ended his time with the National Wrestling Alliance, you can’t forget his exploits for the brand during a dull period when he & Adam Pearce had a fantastic feud that put the belt back on the map for a short while. In this, Cabana managed to get two reigns of the NWA Championship, holding it for a combined 152 days. This is more time as champion than people like Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat & Satoshi Kojima. He also held the British Heavyweight Championship for 349 days around 2013 to 2014, and had come close to winning the Ring Of Honor Championship a few times but never fully claimed it.
With a championship pedigree and hiding his true ability, we can look forward to Cabana eventually getting a shot to truly prove himself to AEW fans. Right now he is stalking Kenny Omega on Being The Elite, which could be a sign of things to come. Do you think Colt Cabana could become AEW Champion?
