A 20 year veteran of the wrestling industry, there are few in AEW as well travelled as Colt Cabana. He is a man who can do it all within the ring, as one of the best technical wrestlers around, just one who tends to be a bit more humerous. He is undefeated in AEW, and could that continue as he enters the tournament to name the first ever TNT Champion?
Colt Cabana Is A Former World Champion
Next to Cody Rhodes, Colt Cabana is the only other former World Champion in the field of 8 in this tournament. He is a former two time NWA Champion, the same belt that Cody Rhodes held in 2018. This is a sign that you really can’t look past Colt Cabana, as he is a proven world champion. No one in his side of the bracket can say that, not even the legendary Dustin Rhodes, or the Murderhawk Monster Lance Archer.
Being Unpredictable Will Help With Lance Archer
The other undefeated member of the bracket is his first round opponent in Lance Archer. While Archer is fearsome, Colt Cabana has faced him and even gained victories over Archer in the past, most recently in a tag team match in November for New Japan Pro Wrestling. He knows what works, and what doesn’t with Archer, something he could use to his advantage. It also helps that Colt is hard to scout; he could come in serious or he could goof off to get into the head of Archer. These are both possible scenerios, and we won’t know until the bell rings. Colt did commentary for the debut of Lance Archer for AEW as well, so he had some extra scouting.
The Dark Horse Pick
While the favorites are already clear in this tournament, Colt Cabana is someone who can easily go all the way or even just play spoiler by taking Archer out. The predicted finals are Archer and Cody due to their story, but Colt Cabana is a tricky one to predict. Things could even go the way of their lone previous singles encounter, where Cabana won by DQ. That would help Cabana move on and get to the second round.
