In March of 2020, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) was schedule to present Homenaje a Dos Leyendas. The show features a big main event and a homage to the founder of CMLL, Salvador Lutteroth and a Lucha Libre legend.
This year, Homenaje of Dos Leyendas was scheduled to honor Sangre Chicana. The Lucha Libre legend was part of the glory years in the 1970s of CMLL. He feuded with icons like El Canek and Fishman. With the latter, Sangre Chicana lost his famous golden mask.
In CMLL, Sangre Chicana won the World Trios Championship with Bestia Salvage & Emilio Charles Jr. Moreover, he won the Mexican National Middleweight Championship, the Mexican National Tag Team Championship with Cien Caras, and on two occasions the NWA World Middleweight Championship. When he moved to AAA in the 90s, he continued his famous feud with El Perro Aguayo and won the AAA Americas Championship.
This year, the main event for Homenaje a Dos Leyendas featured a Lucha de Apuestas in its main event. The match specifically was a hair versus hair match; El Barbaro Cavernario vs.El Felino.
Moreover, there was an incredible line-up for the World Trios Titles; Carístico, Valiente, and Volador Jr. vs Los Guerreros Laguneros (Euforia, Gran Guerrero, and Último Guerrero).
The show was postponed in March. CMLL posted in their announcement: “The Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre [CMLL] and Promotions Mexico, Coliseum and Revolution S.C. It informs that the functions of Saturday 14, Sunday 15, and Tuesday 17 of March are canceled, in the Arenas Coliseo and México, respectively.” They added, “Regarding the Tribute to Two Legends[Homenaje a Dos Leyendas], it is suspended until further notice, so the public that has bought your ticket can keep it and it will be respected for the date it is made, otherwise, you can request a refund.”
Now, it’s uncertain when CMLL is returning with the show. They are barely trying to have some matches behind-closed-doors. Furthermore, Mexico City presents a lot of challenges, with the Box and Lucha Libre Commission headed by Fantasma arguing that until the Covid-19 is neutralized, a return has a 50 percent chance.
Lucha Blog also posed a challenge in the streaming of the show. He speculates that it could be the Nuestra Vision channel through Pluto TV. In the past, the streaming problem turned iPPv prospects into shambles. The logistic of sanitization, Covid-19 testing, plus the streaming organization, could further delay Homenaje de Dos Leyendas.
