The co Best of the Super Juniors (BOSJ 27) and World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) tournaments got underway on November 15, 2020. The event at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium drew a crowd of 2,558 (reduced crowd due to Coronavirus, 2019), and witnessed the largest card since New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) returned from the COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) delay.
The second match of the event saw “Way to the Grand Master” Master Wato take on NJPW Noge Dojo Young Lion Yuya Uemura. Wato came to the ring accompanied by his mentor former, four-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and twelve-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion Hiroyoshi Tenzan.
Before BOSJ 27 got underway, Tenzan and Wato held a public training for journalists to attend, something that happens from time to time in NJPW. The match saw Uemura come out with passion, knowing that the pressure is off of him throughout the tournament.
However, Uemura couldn’t keep up his fast start, as the experience for Wato took over. While only 23, Wato has already went through the NJPW Noge Dojo and already completed a two-year excursion to Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). His training, combined with his mentorship under Tenzan, gives him a wealth of information to fall back on when he is in the ring.
Wato would break out one of Tenzan’s famous techniques TTD (Tenzan Tombstone Driver) for the fall at the 4 minutes and 14 seconds mark to gain two points in BOSJ 27.
Wato faces CHAOS member “Sniper of the Skies” Robbie Eagles on November 18th as his BOSJ 27 tournament campaign continues. While Uemura faces Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Bushi on the same date.
On lookers should look at the effort Uemura puts forth during his upcoming matches. He will have to last longer than 4 minutes if he wants to continue his development on the correct path.
