It’s time for the next night of World Tag League action. Things are ever so slightly heating up in this usually cold tournament as we’re a third of the way into the mix, with some big matches in play on this night. Let’s waste no time and break down the action from this show.

World Tag League 2020 Match: BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens) vs. Los Ingobernables de Japón (SANADA & Shingo Takagi)

After being able to beat the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, the L.I.J unit of SANADA & Shingo Takagi have an easier draw as they look to take down Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens, one of the two teams at 0-3 at this point of the tournament. Fale is a known bracket buster though, so this Bullet Club tandem might get on the board yet.

Despite a fast and strong start, and being able to isolate SANADA early on, Fale & Owens were unable to control Shingo the same way when he was able to tag in. He got the match back in their corner, and a miscue from Fale & Owens allowed SANADA to roll Owens up with the European Clutch to end this fun opening match. SANADA & Shingo move to 6 points, while Fale & Owens remain at 0.

    Match Rating: 2.5/5 (** ½)

World Tag League 2020 Match: CHAOS (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) vs. HenarACE (Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toa Henare)

Speaking of teams that are currently 0-3, that is where HenarACE find themselves, an oddity for Hiroshi Tanhashi. They have a chance to redeem themselves against an equally matched team in Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI. Both Henare & YOSHI-HASHI are striving to prove they’re more than just heart, and Goto has a rich history with Tanahashi. With their hardest matchups out of the way, can HenarACE finally get on the board?

All HenarACE had to do in this match was isolate YOSHI-HASHI and protect the knee of Tanahashi. This plan was going well at the start, but Goto got into the match and brought this match back. Things looked promising again near the end, with Henare just about having the match won. However, they’d take Tanahashi out with an assisted Dragon Screw ala Dangerous Tekkers, and hit the GYR to pick up their second win of the tournament. YOSHI-HASHI did exactly what he needed to for this win, and it moved his team to 4 points, while HenarACE stayed at 0 points.

    Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** ¼)

World Tag League 2020 Match: CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano) vs. BULLET CLUB (EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi)

The plan for an EVIL clean sweep was dashed thanks to Yujiro Takahashi tapping out in their last match with G.O.D. Now, he has to deal with the nonsense of Toru Yano for the first time since Yano beat him in the G1. EVIL hasn’t been in a good mood often this year, but will having a chance at revenge bring a smile to his face?

This one quickly descended into chaos with all but one turnbuckle cover removed, with Toru Yano setting up the game plan. The complexion changed when Ishii came in, and tensions quickly turned this into a great match between him & EVIL. A fast paced finishing stretch would see Yano nearly get the win with a rollup after taking Dick Togo out, before both Ishii & Yano were hit with low blows, and Yano dropped with the STO. This puts EVIL & Takahashi up to 6 points, while Ishii & Yano lag behind at 4 points.

    Match Rating: 3/5 (***)

World Tag League 2020 Match: FinJuice (David Finlay & Juice Robinson) vs. The Empire (Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb)

The Empire were a dark horse pick in the pick ‘ems for this tournament, as we didn’t know who would team with Great O-Khan. Once it was revealed that it was Jeff Cobb, everyone knew they’d potentially go all the way. With two wins under their belts, they have to face the defended World Tag League champions in FinJuice, which might be a pure battle of good and evil.

While FinJuice brought enough babyface fire to burn down an entire district, it was matched by the sheer power of their opponents. They did everything they could to break down one of their imposing opponents, and showed their excellent teamwork, but Jeff Cobb is just getting more dangerous by the day. He’d be the one to get the deciding fall once again, somehow countering Finlays Sliced Bread No. 2 into a Tour of the Islands, and continued the rise of The Empire. This moves The Empire up to 6 points, keeping pace with the rest of the leading teams. FinJuice remains at 4 points, making back to back wins still a possibility.

    Match Rating: 3/5 (***)

World Tag League 2020 Match: Guerrillas Of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) vs. Dangerous Tekkers (Taichi & Zack Sabre Jr.)

Two of the best teams NJPW have to offer would of course take the main event slot for this show, with Guerillas of Destiny taking on the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, Dangerous Tekkers. They’re tied in points, and their one match in the past saw G.O.D take the win.

This one was a messy brawl from the start. The first five or so minutes was centered around outside brawling, with both teams trying to hit big moves up on the stage. Eventually the referee got sick of this and started the 20 count to lure them back to the ring. Some solid if not unremarkable tag team wrestling would follow, both teams going back and forth with control. The finish was a messy affair, with the referee missing a tap out from Tanga Loa thanks to Jado. Every possible weapon would come into play at the end, with the Izukas iron glove being used to take ZSJ out and hand G.O.D the win. While these teams lacked in-ring chemistry, it was just a very fun and chaotic main event. This puts them up to 6 points, while Tekkers drop two in a row and stay at 4 points.

    Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4)
