Too often over the history of professional wrestling, a career is cut short. The latest case of this comes with Ring of Honor legend, Jimmy Rave. As a result of a bad infection in his left arm, it was deemed necessary for an amputation to be done. This ends his 21 year in-ring career.
Jimmy Rave Reaches The End Of His Dream
Rave would take to Twitter to break this disheartening news.
“I have been very blessed for the last 21 years in professional wrestling and getting to live out my dream. Today that dream has ended for me and I have a new reality. This past Tuesday, my world came crashing down when Doctors found an infection in my left arm. I tried toughing it out, but by the time I saw a doctor it was too late and they had to amputate my left arm above the elbow. Thus ending my in-ring career.”
He’d go on to thank everyone who supported him, who pushed him to get better at his craft, all his mentors and students. You can read the full statement here.
Rave Left His Mark On Wrestling History
In the early days of Ring of Honor, Rave was amongst their biggest heel names. He had a knack for getting crowds against him, so much so that instead of having streamers thrown his way like you’d see with other talents, they’d throw toilet paper at him. It’s downright impossible to imagine those early days of Ring of Honor without him there, with him stealing finishers and claiming he invented them, and fighting for the ROH World Championship when it was held by Bryan Danielson.
He left the company in 2007, though he came back in 2009, 2011, and 2013. Rave also made a name for himself in Impact Wrestling alongside Lance Hoyt, better known now as AEW’s Lance Archer. You could find him in the archives of CZW, PWG and even WWE, through a one off on an episode of heat.
Mostly from this, there is one major takeaway. This is why you should never leave things to fate, and if you know something is wrong, seek medical treatment where possible. We can only hope that Rave is able to recover and adapt to this major life change, and lives a healthy and fulfilling life going forward. He still has a lot to offer to professional wrestling outside of the ring, having an excellent mind for the business, but not being able to be involved in the ring could be a bit much, as it has been with others in the past who have had their time cut short.
